My Yamaha vity 125 is sometimes having a problem when I try to start it, It will try to turn over, it just seem like it will not ignite the engine? When it first started it was a one off, to get over it I put a bit of throttle on with the ignition button in and it started. Today it did it to me once more! this time even putting a bit of throttle on did not help, I left it for 2hrs or so and went back to try it and it started?? Can someone please help? I had a look at the air filter as a friend said this might be why, it was not, as i did try it without the filter on and it was the same.

My 50cc scooter does this occasionally when starting from cold. It seems to be an issue with the fuel from the float bowl evaporating so you have to turn the engine over a few times until it gets more fuel. Or if you turn the engine over with your hand over the air filter inlet then it will prime the engine quicker, try this and see if it works.

However if your bike has a fuel tap then this shouldnt be a problem. If it does have a fuel tap make sure it is working correctly and not blocked.

Hi, your Yamaha is fuel injected so should fire up on the button. As the machine is turning over you should hear the fuel pump "ticking" as it primes the fuel injector. If this is not working check for power to the pump, if there is no power trace the wiring back to find fault. If however you do have power to the pump, then you have a faulty fuel pump. But the most likley fault is a worn inlet valve guide. This wears prematurly and the inlet valve does not seat properly causing rough running and aventually it will not start at all, this will require a cylinder head replacement Crying or Very sad . The easy way to check this is to get your local garage to run a compression test or if it is still under warranty ask your local Yamaha dealer to look at it.
