Too much oil in the chain?

I recently bought silkoline chain lube it comes out pretty thick, but anyway i went a run yesterday and it seems so much had been flung off it was on the wheel and on the side of the tyre aswell, should a i wipe it with a cloth after i apply it on the chain?

You don't want the chain dripping with it or it'll fling like yours did, give it a wipe with a cloth - the important part to keep lubricated are the rubber o rings between the sideplates, the lube on the sides of the chain just stop it rusting.

In future, if you are getting fling anyway you might as well save your money and use oil (any oil, even used engine oil, 80w 90 gear oil doesn't fling as much as engine oil) applied with a paint brush - massively cheaper and the only down side is that it flings off a bit, if your pricey spray can stuff is doing that anyway then it has no benefit.
