When you're wearing full leathers, what do you wear underneath? As it's getting colder, I figured I need to layer up, but as they are a snug fit, there's not much room to wear a lot of layers. I'm thinking something along the lines of thermal long johns and some kind of thermal balaclava. Any ideas or recommendations welcome Smile

Textiles aren't an option, I just don't have the cash Thumbs Down

Edit: I'm looking at something like this.

If its not raining you wear stuff outside your leathers. I have a fleece I wore a few days ago when it was slightly cool. Then if it is raining you wear water proofs on top of this.

Must resist temptation to post Frank N Furter pic... Wink

Joking aside (though I won't put it past some I know....), there's not much to wear underneath. Coldkillers stuff works well and another trick is to wear breathable overtrousers (goretex) over a base layer under the leathers. These keep the cold out quite well and combined with a fleece over the top of the leathers, works moderately well.

If it's raining and cold, I have put a fleece over the leathers followed by waterproofs. I don't commute on the bike but any of the above will be an inconvenience if you commute and have to change at work.

Alternatively, second hand textiles pop up around this time of year as people get new kit for Winter. You can get some bargains.

Try an outdoors shop, the base layer will probably be good for what you want. They will probably have different types; dry, cool, warm. Warm is generally more expensive as it is thicker. Take you leathers (or go on your bike) and try them on under it. They will probably have [smelly] helly hansen which work well but can get smelly pretty quickly, a decent outdoor shop will also sell some merino wool base layers which won't get smell and in most peoples opinion is much better Thumbs Up

Race leathers? Techno-thermal base layers. Bamboo is quite trendy at the moment, but be sure to check what your favourite racetrack hero is pimping.

Harley leathers? Fishnets and nipple rings.

A lob on mostly, must be the vibrations...

Apart from the above I have base layers that wick away moisture and whatever the spiel says, or I wear a pair of the Missus' ( now mine ) joggers, skintight with no pockets so you haven't got to fight the fuckers back down your leg when you suit up, stop for a piss or fart...

A peephole pringle (modelled on an SAS balaclava) and a vulcanised rubber thong (so it won't perish).

Want me to dance for you?

I tend not to wear leathers.

They don't keep you warm, that's for sure, and they chill faster than textiles, and stay chilled.

If I do wear them, I wear jeans over the top, and if wet, water proofs over them.

If very cold, quilted water proofs, and if extremely cold, Damart Long johns under all!

Snowie went to LIDL yesterday though; came back with a 'Motorcycle Thermal Underwear' set... back on offer.... I think it was about £20... as yet untested..... though when she tried it on, she did look rather Lara-Croft'ish...... (Sorry; she stole the card out of my camera to stop me taking pics!)

GOT to be worth the £20 so you can pretend to be Tom Cruise in the Quantico Vault of Mission Impossible (1)!

Under my leathers I tend to wear a T shirt for the top half and those Aldi base layer pants for the bottom half.

Textiles I wear jeans under.

T-shirt under the top unless it's cold in which case T-shirt and jumper.
Nothing on under the bottom apart from underwear unless again, it's cold in which case longjohns.

Marks and Sparks thermal baselayer is the best I've found and at about £18 an item not expensive.

Merino is best but at £50 to £60 also the most expensive

Lidl have done some really good stuff.

If you buy from an 'outdoor' shop, make sure the top you get is long enough - they're not always made for someone in a sitting or crouching position and then you get a gap between your top and your bottoms.

Nowt wrong with a nice thick pair of tights if you're on a budget.

Personally I've found that cheap waterproofs (ie. not clever-arse technical ones that claim to breathe and all that stuff) make a huge difference against the cold because they stop the air getting through your leathers as much. Plus you have the advantage of being waterproof already if it starts to rain. If you don't have textiles for the colder weather, some nasty plasticky waterproofs to go over your leathers will help a lot.

Spada 1 piece undersuit, keeps you cool when it's warm and warmish when it's cold.

I use to wear a t shirt under them but always felt uncomfortable after a while.
