I've got a cbr600 and the grips are a bit worn, one is loose too so i've decided to renew them but there's a bewildering array for sale on the net it seems!

Are all grips the same size or are they make specific or even model specific?

Does anyone have any recommendations on the make of grip or is a grip just a grip lol?

All handle bars on bikes(except Harleys) are 7/8".
Any grip will do, it depends on what you want to spend.
Heated grips are nice in winter for around the £100 mark.
When fitting your grips, here is a good tip, spray the handlebar and the inside of the grip with hairspray(don't tell the wife, she will go apeshit), this makes it slide on easier and when it dries, the grips will never turn on the bar.
Good luck.

Are the grips all the same length too?

I intend to fit them the same way i've put grips on my golf clubs...a spiral of double-sided tape on the bar, douse with white spirit then slide straight on...dries in about 30 mins and stays on for good lol.

Yes, I have fitted Yamaha bars to an old BSA, until I got hold of the proper ones, the grips fitted perfectly.
Only Harleys are different, as they are 1".
I would be 99% sure that the length would be the same, as long as you don't have a load of extra switchgear, you shouldn't have any problems. Smile

For as long as I can remember I have been using Renthal grips. There are a huge number to choose from on the internet, but no others have come closer than using these.A reasonable price as well - not cheap, but a better quality than the cheap rubbish.

Full Diamond Medium is what I use on the roadbikes, using the proper glue and then lockwiring.

You are correct with nuts etc being lockwired. You can also use the wire on your grips too.

There seems to be quite a few people saying that they have problems with comfort on the Renthals? Any comments/other suggestions?

Oh, one last question. Grips seem to be available in 125 or 135mm. The ones on my CBR seem to be 115 with a bit of the bar showing on the throttle side. Any suggestions? Would allowing the grip to overlap on the end weights affect who the grips grip on the bars?

The soft grips will be more comfortable but will wear out quicker. The hard ones, from experience, let some vibration through the grips. This is why I prefer the mediums.

As for the length, differant bikes have differant throttle tube lengths. On my dirt bikes I use the motocross length grips.I then have to cut off a small piece in order to be able to fit the handguards.
