Morning all!

I need a new clutch and have been looking around for one, I have seen some clutch kits starting at £55 and working there way up to £140 for a heavy duty clutch.

What are the benifits of a heavy duty one and is it worth the money. I can get one for about £80.

Taa muchly x

It should last longer, but also may well have heavier springs which will mean a heavier pull on the clutch lever. That may also make it harder to do fast get aways, but you should be able to do more of them.

Oh I see. So I guess it is probably not worth it on my bike (VFR400 NC30)?

If your clutch has lasted a long time as it is, I wouldn't bother.
If your clutch was actually replaced relatively recently, worth considering.

Oh and NC30 has an odd two-part clutch. Be careful all the plates are properly positioned before doing it up; or it'll end up with it just locked on.

having suffered with the weak clutch on a fj1200, the heavier clutch springs do prolong clutch life at the expense of more effort at the lever.

I have no idea how long the clutch has been on there as I have only had the bike for 1 year, and I certainly wouldnt be replacing it myself Laughing

I wouldnt say the clutch is weak it has always felt nice, but when I first got the bike I took it to PDQ for a little tweaking in the dyno room, they did tell me that it was slipping slighty at 12000 revs. It was fine for a long time after that but has recently (in the last couple of months) got worse and worse and now it slips all the time through the entire rev range. Crying or Very sad

Clutch is actually pretty easy to do apart from generally needing an impact wrench for Hondas.

In the past I've done one at a drag strip and on the pavement outside a bike shop! (So that we could use their impact wrench - their workshop was fully booked up.)
