Have decided that when the time comes I'll probably be looking at Diablo Rosso Corsa's, heard lots of good things about them Thumbs Up

New can turned up the other day, itching to get the system on, but will wait until I can do some dyno time to get it set up right Cool

Laughing

Why did you buy a hugely over priced bike, because it had a full system on it, correctly set up with dyno time to replace it with a totally different system Laughing?

Would have been cheaper to buy a standard bike no?

Doesn't seem to be too over priced, the first 3 red and white '98s I've seen are between £3k and £3500, and the only 100% standard one is £3295 so not very far out at all Thumbs Up I didn't even know it had a full system on it until I picked it up, I thought it was just an end can as there are so few full system equipped bikes about.

TBH nothing I've bought can't be sold on again if and when the time comes, the steering damper will be a good selling point, and the clear screen looks way better than the black one, the solo cowl is nice to have if I don't feel like taking a pillion. The wheels are a personal thing, but both black and white will sell easily for what I paid for them to anyone looking. I'd rather have it looking the way I want, seeing as it's me that's got to live with it Thumbs Up

Sorry, I don't mean to sound harsh with what I'm saying. Just finding it frustrating that you're just spending money for no reason at all.

The prices have gone up since last time I looked. Still found this though:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-YAMAHA-YZF-R1-/230762360677?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item35ba822f65#ht_786wt_1139

To be fair, I didn't realise they were fetching so much now.

I'm a big believer in don't fix something that isn't broken, you've got a lovely bike there that's ready to go so just get the thing on the road!!

Only comments I have about the ebay one there is it isn't a red and white Wink nothing else will do for me lol

I have to wait until April 14th to ride it anyway, that's when my current insurance policy ends, and I've already tried to swap over, but because it's such a jump they wouldn't even entertain the idea.

Good price, there are bargains to be had out there, especially if you're willing to negotiate some of the points (colours, mileage etc) Very Happy

One thing that's been nagging me since I bought the bike is that the infills under the grips are carbon effect painted plastic, it looks ok, but when a set of real carbon ones came up I jumped at the chance, £50 posted and they're as new Thumbs Up

https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/1998%20Yamaha%20YZF-R1/R1carboninfills.jpg

I've put the Akra system up in the rafters again, I'll be keeping the Yoshi until I can be bothered to fit it (some time in 2014 then!) I'm trying to get hold of a set of tyres for my white wheels, the D209's fitted are shagged (didn't think the guy was sending them with the tyres on) but will see what crops up, I can always wait until it needs tyres anyway.

Been out on it Very Happy well chuffed, goes like a bloody rocket ship! Just working on getting into the groove again, having been on a Bandit 650 then a moped for the last 6 months! Seems to be going ok, been watching my speed very carefully, the rate it can get up to 60 even on part throttle is a little unnerving!

Still love the stance, lines and colours of the early R1s - makes later bikes look fussy and unbalanced - looks great. Thumbs Up

Afraid not, I'm not that confident yet! Did nearly erase the chicken strips though, I thought it was ok for a first go Smile I did do a session in torrential rain too, I was one of about 8 that bothered lol gave up after that.

I used my NC30's ones mate, I could only get one bolt in, but they held fast and I had no problems with them the whole day, even up to 155-160 Smile I believe Jap4Performance do proper ones to fit though Thumbs Up

Hopefully booking another track day for the 6th of September, so hoping the weather will be ok (not holding out much hope though!) if it does rain then so be it, I'll take spare clothes and plenty of hot food Smile I wasn't that bothered riding on the track in the rain, I just dialled it back a bit like you would on the road, still got well into triple figures on the straights, but was much earlier and lighter on the brakes and didn't lean quite as much in the corners Smile
