He rides a 98 R1.

Nothing is faster, therefore he is the fast group. Thumbs Up

How did I know you'd say something like that? Laughing I'm not even a 10th as capable as the bike, it fast, I'm the thing holding it back haha

3 reasons, the first and most important being I like shiny things lol second, I can ONLY get faster, so it'll come in useful later, third, my standard one has done 28k, so was due a refresh, which would have been a third as expensive as the Öhlins unit I bought lol

I dont mean this to be horrible but is there much else need for the Ohlins forks and shocks other than the tart value ?

Looking at the trackday pics, you dont exactly seem to be setting the world on fire with speed, and looking at the suspention load mid corner its hardly under any stress.

The bike will look very sexy with them on though i must admit Thumbs Up

To be honest with you, not really, I like shiny things lol hopefully I'll get a lot faster pretty soon, having only done 2 trackdays! But until then it's tart factor, much like a certain carbon clad S1000RR Wink

They're here!

20 minutes after they arrived I was ready to put them in (the first 10 was getting the bike on the stand and the wheel up!)

Whatever floats your boat, but echo above - those forks seem like a colossal waste of money.

You'd have been better off spending the money on getting the bike setup for you and doing another 4 trackdays.

Meh, maybe a waste, but then again there's plenty of other bikes about that have had more spent on the bodywork than my whole suspension setup! Trackdays and suspension setups happen all year round, these parts only come up a handful of times a year (the forks are only the second set for a 4xv I've seen for sale in a whole year)

Next on the list is getting the suspension setup done, then an overhaul on the front calipers.

That is very very nice. You could call it a waste of money, but it's only going to make it a more enjoyable bike to ride, on and off the track.

Are you going to take it to someone to get it set up, or just play around by yourself?

I'm taking it to FTR in Bury St Edmunds to have it done, they're Öhlins specialists, and have been recommended by several customers at work Thumbs Up

Mmmm.I like those forks Very Happy

Would I buy some for my R1?I doubt it,but properly set up I bet that it will make the bike handle quite differantly. My brother has some on his Gixer1000 and the fork seals have gone again Shocked

I found that with the Ohlins rear shock installed on my R1,that the standard front forks needed sorting out.I did find that once the front springs and oil had been changed for Ohlins products, that fine tuning of the rear shock then made a considerable differance to the handling.

Cheers, when I bought it I never intended to buy them, but when they came up it was at a price I couldn't refuse!

I remember you saying about the shock out doing the stock fork setup, and I had intended to get it redone with Ohlins internals, but this seemed to be a much faster option (didn't have to wait around with the bike off the road while they rebuilt the forks)

I have noticed it's actually quite a bit smoother than my stock ones, they're a little bit stiffer, but that can be dialled out when I get the bike back.

Bikes back, done over 150 miles now, just through getting reacquainted Very Happy

I've booked a trackday at Snetterton, and because the carbon can will fail the noise test I picked up a used Akrapovic can with baffle for £80.

Here she is with brand new headlights and resprayed nose, plus the new can

Cheers, I absolutely adore it, I smile every time I hear the motor burble into life, even when nothing else will (proven recently when I was really really depressed)

Will do, been reading twist of the wrist 1 and 2, and was given tips while at the track, unfortunately a lot of my upper body positioning is dictated by what my shoulder can cope with (hoping it'll be sorted by June, possibly having an artificial socket!)
