Very nice mate Thumbs Up , how much did you pick them up for? The Old style Ohlins RoadRace forks are becoming harder to find now

Needs a clean though

Cheers bud Very Happy paid £730 for them, brand new caliper brackets and a fresh service before they came out to me Thumbs Up

It's clean now, was freshly valeted before it came back from the repairers.

How do they compare to the stock R1 forks?

They're golder Laughing nah, they're pretty damn tasty, they feel much smoother than the stock ones, whether that was them requiring a service or not is another question, I've found I can push a bit harder than before (placebo effect?) Can't wait till the 16th, got Snetterton booked up, will see how it feels there Smile

How did you find the rear shock? Have been told its supposed to transform the ride. My R1's done 26000 miles and the rear shock is really soft so i think its due for a rebuild or change!

To be fair mine had done 27k and was in need of a rebuild anyway, the Ohlins unit felt more composed, the stocked seemed to get tied in knots if I was going for it on a bumpy road.

Really can't wait, got a trackday booked at Snetterton this Tuesday, really hoping for good weather, just so i don't spend the day cold, wet and miserable Laughing

I've just booked that, weather looks ok Smile
Will be my first trackday for nearly year and I crashed at the last one so only did a few sessions, hopefully this one goes better!

Will keep an eye out for you.

Nice to meet you Al, was a stroke of luck just turning up to the garage you were in eh?! Will definitely have to see if there's another day we can both attend (nice having someone you know to talk to in the breaks!)

The day was organised in association with BIKE Magazine, some of the staff were there, and they were very friendly and had plenty of time to have a chat with the riders, if another comes up I'll definitely look at booking it!

So to the day itself. It started pretty rank to be fair, it had rained a bit overnight and hadn't quite fully dried up, luckily by 7.30 when I left for the track it had started to brighten up a little. I got to the track and did all of the usual stuff, sign on, noise testing and then the briefing. At this point we got some good news, there weren't quite enough people in both the fast and inters groups to make it worth running them separately, so they would be combined and the layout of the day changed, meaning we would be alternating every session, 20 minutes on track, then 20 minutes off track. The novices (the group I was in) were held back a little for a slightly longer chat to make us feel even more at ease, the other group went out and did their sighting laps and first session (what was left after sighting was free track time)

I went out for my sighting laps (1 out lap, one full lap and the in lap) and then squeezed in a few at a faster pace (bearing in mind cold tyres, track condition etc) The other group went out for theirs and unfortunately there was a severe accident in the first session, serious enough that both medical crews were in attendance, and eventually the Air Ambulance was called out. I did hear from the staff that the rider was stable, and not life threatening. The track time resumed at around 11.50 (we had been stopped for about an hour and a half at this point) with Novice group out first. I was still a little rusty from riding through winter, not hanging off enough, early braking and not getting on the throttle hard or soon enough, but the best things come to he who waits!

All I will say is I started off better than when I finished my first day IMO
https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/3rd%20Trackday%20Snetterton%20-%2016th%20April%202013/IMG_0896_1MorningSessions.jpg

Slowly progressing through the morning, I started getting braver and faster, the weather picked right up to the point I'm glad I went with a tinted visor! You can see immediately see comparing this and the previous picture how much more comfortable with the bike I was, and this was only about 2 sessions later!

https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/3rd%20Trackday%20Snetterton%20-%2016th%20April%202013/IMG_0982_1MorningSessions.jpg

I love the Bombhole, this was taken just before I started was really happy (I still had my purple hoodie on under the leathers!) hence the lack of angle
https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/3rd%20Trackday%20Snetterton%20-%2016th%20April%202013/IMG_1834_1MorningSessions.jpg

These are from about the 5th session, so my speed had really picked up a bit, I was even going around people! I did make sure that where I overtook it was in a safe manner, there were a few people I thought were a little too aggressive for being in the novice group (coming under people in the corners or forcing through under the brakes, rather than backing off or going around the outside) but that might just be me!

Went around this Kawaski rider around Coram, was one of my favourite places to overtake there, nice and wide, and plenty of room to abort if needs be.

Getting lower!

There are no pics of it happening, but I did eventually tick a motorcycling box, and did for the first time!
https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/FB_IMG_13661507675788529.jpg

Luckily for me, they gave me wristbands that matched the bike Very Happy
https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/FB_IMG_13661215647657285.jpg

All in all I did 160 miles over the day, I think there were about 12 sessions, but really wasn't counting! The suspension was working like a dream, really very impressed, and will be making sure that contact in future trackdays is handled but Metzeler Racetec K3s Dance!

Hey was nice to meet you mate and a good day, hopefully the guy that crashed is alright now I've never known them to stop a trackday for so long.
Nice write up and photos, I take it my effort from the pit wall didn't come out very well Laughing

Yeah would definitely be up for another one at some point, although I'm going to have to change my clutch springs beforehand as my arm was killing by the time I got home.
Well done on the knee downage Thumbs Up Smile

Sorted out a Brembo 19x20 master cylinder, love it, much better feel and bleeding it up was a total doddle thanks to it having a bleed nipple at the top (and also the only thing I've ever found that uses an 11mm spanner!)

Two things that I found when installing the Brembo was to space out the bar-end weight with a washer or two,and to heed the advice I was given by a friend,to use a twist of safety wire through the hollow pivot pin for the lever. Those pins have been known to escape. My friend lost several fingers at the Old Hairpin at Donington after losing the front brake lever coming down Craner Curves, reached for the brake lever and nothing.Hit the bank near the corner and is now suffering the consequences.

cheers Tim, got both of those sorted now, especially the safety wire, I like having 10 fingers!

Had an awesome ride out to Rye with Fizzer, Waffles, Missedd etc unfortunately I'm hopeless and forgot my camera so only got 3 pics Sad

https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/20130506_120609.jpg

Waffles and I had to park separately at the quay as there wasn't a great deal of room left!

https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/20130506_160448.jpg

Big thanks to everyone in our group, nice reasonable riding pace, didn't feel crowded or pressured to go faster at all, plus there was plenty of banter in between Smile

Special shout out to Missedd, thanks for the use of your spare room, very much appreciated, made the 325 mile round trip manageable Thumbs Up

You know it! Was my victory of the day lol good to meet you too, that many new people satisfies my social effort quota until next bbq time Laughing

As far as I know everyone got back ok, although at the Dartford toll I got separated because the van in front was stopped for ages, so had to tunnel run solo Sad 12k, roll off and wait for the bangs!
