i broke a work mates crosser boot whilst trying to kick it so i've had to wedge him up for them.

new season also starts in a few weeks so all my spare dollar is going on new tools.

i'll pull it out in a few weeks when i've got five minutes to play.

did turn over a bit though and i thing at one point i even got a little backfire.

On singles I pull it back in gear to get it just past TDC before trying to push start.

Great project BTW.

Would it be easy to move the timing to get it to fire at TDC just to get it running.?

its more to do with the fact that i cant get enough traction to get it to pin over fast enough.

next week im going to clean the carb again and fit the new reeds then try again.

Maybe if you have a different size sprocket it will make easier to turn over.

I had similar problems with a 600 single once, turned out to be a blocked pilot jet. It'd run just fine if you could kick it over at 3000rpm Laughing

Chris get some fat fudger sit on it an bump it Wink
Did you try just feathering the clutch out slowly?
Must say it reminds me of a lister petter 500cc engine i rebuilt a while ago. Hand crank jobby, was impossible to spin it quick enough to not get stopped dead by the compression. Ended up jacking up a berlingo, put the front wheel against the flywheel, wouldn't have that. So used a 2.5L turbo izuzu trooper instead. That got the bugger going. Then once it had been running an hour or so it was easy as pie to start.

It's a few things, it'll be because chris is light I'm guessing. Bets on he's about 10 stone or less. Then you gotta look at the rear wheel, a lot smaller than the bike it came out of I'm sure. This will effectively downgear it, making it harder to bumpstart. Also thinner tyres!

Hopefully you will get it started soon fella.

Have you checked the CR of the motor? Even if setup for avgas it should kick over without to much hassle. I used to start my rgv250 on the paddock stand just by turning the rear wheel by hand! Yes I know it's 2x 125cc but your making this thing sound like a 500 4t single ?

So possibly a combination of high compression ratio + narrow tyre + skinny ginger bloke = fail. Razz

Cake is usually the answer.

You sure its not partially siezed? I've kick started a cr250 lump (in a trials bike) a few times and it wasn't exactly hard to kick, I was about 9 stone at the time and one quick boot had it fire up pretty easy.

the thing had just been rebuilt with new piston and rings etc so wasn't down on compression either.

Thought about throwing another base gasket in there just to see what kind of difference it makes?
