Notts closed yesterday, leaving me jobless, got a pallet of 80 empty boxes in the morning and later on the area manager who also has lost his job told us the bad news and spent the day packing stock up,

quite surprised notts went, yes it was the smallest store but we made a profit and only full on motorcycle clothing shop in nottingham.

We are pleased to announce that the following shops are open for business as usual:

Manchester
Stockwell, London
Southampton
Edinburgh
Farnborough
Gants Hill, Ilford, London
Glasgow
Belfast
Maidstone
Preston
Leicester
Braintree
Aberdeen
Hanger Lane, London
Oxford
Chiswick, London

We are working as quickly as possible to ensure our UK Webshop is back online as soon as possible.

Sadly no shops for York or Leeds.

In fact for mainland UK only Scotland, North West (Manchester, Preston), down south and Leicester for the Midlands.

So, no bikers in the south west, north, north east then Confused

Maybe it is J&S who bought them as that would match areas where they already have stores.

I guess like woolworths.co.uk rising from the ashes they'll be hoping the web site may attract people. Personally I like to try my clothing and helmets for fit Rolling Eyes

Confused

Sadly not by the looks of it, so i guess the Newcastle shop will be shut also.

As is the case with many motorcyclists. Every bit of equipment is a different fit and you cant get a feel for it by measuring your head and ordering online.

Business half open versus business half closed. Ah well, it could have been a lot worse.

That's a lot of new stock to buy, I am intrigued as to who is bankrolling it.

Seems likes a case of 'Save the village pub' no fucker went to anyway, but everyone is up in arms about.

Can't help but think HG fell victim to the trying on in the shop and then save money by buying it t'internet, plus they were a bit pricey.

Bit hard if you're trying on HG branded stuff Confused
When I started biking I used to think they were expensive then I did a little research of other budget stuff (e.g. Akito*, Frank Thomas and the likes of J&S never heard of them stock) and the expensive brands. Found they were pitched between the two and for the kit I've bought it's stood up very well and lasted. So in that sense it's been good value for my money. I can't say I always bought at their full price (eternal DFS like offers/sales), always asked and got a little discount (bike owners club) and always looked for stuff at a price I was prepared to spend. Plus I like the fact they were European sizes and the cut of the jackets, trousers, etc. worked.

Thumbs Up

* that said I like the Akito Miami boots for summer and the Akito summer gloves bought for £5 have been good this year.

Out of interest do you have a source for that or is it internet gossip?

I only ask as Norwich has re-opened as part of Infinity Motorcycles.

Confused

Seems to be quite a lot of stores not reopening.

I got some decent HG branded gloves for work, only cost £15 and were perfect for those hot days, with knuckle armour too.

Spotted some Alpinestars gloves in there for £30 more than advertised anywhere else. I managed to buy from Demon Tweeks and got a further discount because I've bought a lot of stuff there, so saved myself over £50.

No wonder people didn't want to buy the brands from there, if they'd been willing to give discount to those that asked, they'd probably have got a lot more custom and kept customers too... I nearly got 25% off some boots, but as the guy was putting it through, the new(ish) manager came and said no no no you can't do that, you can have £10 off but no more, so I was like no thanks, that's more than the RRP, I'll get them somewhere else.

One of the guys who works in the Southampton store told me. So yeah I suppose it is technically gossip.

IIRC, the story came out that they'd been covering UK's debts for a couple of years now. It seems curious that they'd stop bankrolling them in order to put spend a different way, buying them wholesale. But it could have looked like a better use of their money, especially if there were differences of opinion in management.

However, I don't believe it's ever been confirmed that the new owner is HG Germany. Although it's very strange that the buyer is so hush-hush since they'll have to convince suppliers to extend them even more credit.

Actually, checking the numbers, it looks like a "glass 1/3 full" situation, that's only 16 out of 49 stores kept open. Sad

Bristol would have been in competition with Fowlers, Riders and Morses and a fair few smaller independents.

Not sure about further South/westwards though.
