The maximum payload of my bike is 184kg.
I weigh about 70kg. Average pillion weighs about 60-80kg.

However, there is a sticker under my seat that states 'luggage load should not exceed 19kg under any circumstances'.

I'm a bit confused as to why this would be the case. Surely me sticking a 30kg concrete block on the seat can't be any worse than a 70kg person sitting on it?

Does this warning relate to the mounting bolts for luggage racks, perhaps?

Yes, and has an effect on the stability of the bike at higher speeds (the police had issues with over loading st1300's )

Strapping a 40kg bucket of bolts to the back seat of pan euro made it feel crap and I was happy to get it delivered but I'm more than happy to carry a 70kg pillion all day.

I've been wondering about this as well.

The info is confusing.

CBF manual says max payload 8kg. Which I assume is spread all over the pillion area.
Givi top box says max payload 3kg
Givi mount / bracket has a max payload of 6kg.

So obviously I can't put 8kg in the top box, but if the mounting plate / bracket will handle 6kg then surely 6kg could go in the top box? Or does Givi mean the top box itself is likely to give way with anything above 3kg?

edit: to correct typo

I strapped a 65kg pit bike to rear seat of my rf600 and it was fine.

Didn't handle that well, but very manageable.

Have had myself (100kg) gf (55kg) and a small toolkit (5kg), luggage, two crates of beer, tent etc for a weeks camping on a naked blackbird, it was fine.

Carry what you want. If it is affecting the handling, alter your riding style accordingly.

Firewood anyone?

Wasn't it more a case of unevenly loading them, not overloading?

Wasn't it a case of teaching people to ride a motorcycle from a book?

How dare you insinuate that blue lights don't automatically make police capable of controlling vehicles at 3 figure speeds. Wink
