Cheers Thumbs Up
Nah, want to ride this one in anger.

Update:

Although not much has happened recently these turned up, protective sleeve for the bare braided brake lines and a temporary filter for the cam cover. The plan is to run a catch tank later (and would be needed for race regs).

There we go
https://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr119/Timon1983/VFR%20nc30%20trackbike/IMG_25771_zpsfb55fa40.jpg

But as the rubbers, clips and cables are all here now today I managed to get the almost impossible task of fitting the carbs with a HRC airtray getting in the way done. Had to take the grill out as it was going rusty. That'll not be made from stainless then but it will get a coat of zinc (as will the top rad grill).

Managed to get the billet 6 pots back together and on the bike this weekend.

Here they both are after I repainted the lines with black caliper paint.

Nice and clean now
https://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr119/Timon1983/VFR%20nc30%20trackbike/IMG_2813_zps1b60cc01.jpg

Pushed the pistons back out, applied some grease then pushed them back in again.

Also put the number boards on the seat unit. Will paint the red and blue around them.

Thought I'd do a trail fit. Glad I did because there were loads of little mods to be done.
Slowly getting there.

Been working on the clocks mount at the moment.

Got a section welded on the the end and then cut it down to length
https://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr119/Timon1983/VFR%20nc30%20trackbike/null_zps57c5efdd.jpg

Then shaped it down, drilled and tapped it.
https://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr119/Timon1983/VFR%20nc30%20trackbike/null_zps4fb95198.jpg

This has been easy to say but has taken an age to get right with the fairing etc coming off and on many times to make sure everything fits properly.

Next thing is to get it bolted on with the clocks so I can make a template for another catch tank bottle mount

I use a bit of rod to hold all the pads in place when sliding those type of callipers on, they like them on Harleys but the pads are stupid money when doing a twin disc front end takes six sets of pads (nine if you have a matching rear calliper too).

Yep I've made some tooling now to make servicing calipers easier now.

Got the catch tank bottle mount for the fuel tank made in stainless.

Was having a bit of a debate with a chap about the theory behind greasing up the brake caliper piston (as described in your earlier post)

I thought it sounded a good idea as bike brakes seem notorious for seizing up.
He however thought the grease would attract muck that may possibly get past the seals and cause problems.

What's your take on it TIM ?

Thumbs Up

Hi fozzym. Like with most things I consider it a trade off.

These cailpers had not been used in a while and the reason I used the red rubber grease was to just help free up the pistons and get them 'gliding' a tad better.

Yes its true that the grease will attract a bit more dirt but that is what the caliper dust seal is there for. Hopefully the little barrier of grease would stop any salt/water/grit getting to the seals.

I certainly dont intend on letting the calipers get so dirty that they start to seize up. Cleaning and maintenance is a motorcycles best friend
