It's useful advice like this that keeps me coming back to this forum, time and time again!

It's a teapot.

Tank ain't worth messing with if it's rusted through IMO - find a replacement.

I've got a big box of parts for it. I still need to have a sort through it and see what I am missing

Hopefully I will get it fired up this week (the battery is on charge right now)

I am very tempted to buy the original front fairings from ebay. without them the tank looks very weird as it has huge gaps all the way around.

Does anyone know if a different rear shock that will fit this? It's a bit too low for me at the moment

I think B12, RF600/900 and teapot 750 shocks would fit. GSXR Slingshot and early watercooled (pre SRAD) may fit.

Make sure its an eye one end and clevis the other.

GSXR750/1100 1985-1995 forks will swap. I would imagine rear wheels could be swapped in with some work on spacers.

It's cost nothing, don't complain. Just change that crap nose fairing (I had one on an LC years ago).

I'm not complaining, I am just stating that it is damn ugly!

I am considering buying a set of the original fairings and putting it back to how it should look. I quite like the retro feel

`get on www.katriders.com its an american forum but they know a fair bit about upgrading them.

gsxr forks wise if you want USDs you need the 91-92 gsxr750, no other gsxr usd front end fits.

98 onwards gsxf rear shock fits i think, also bandit 12 fits but jacks it massivley and needs new dogbones, r6 shock is pretty much direct swap.

More details on katriders.com

Not a bad bike for free, im riding a 95 600 at the moment, they are good solid bikes.

Cheers
John

Generally you can't argue about personal taste as it's entirely subjective; however, you are wrong.

Hey, I'm not knocking it.

It's a bit like happening to be attracted to incredibly unappealing girls...you'll be able to pick one up much more cheaply than the more desirable models whilst ultimately they still go well and you don't have to look at it when you're riding it anyway Laughing

I would suggest you pm Stelmer. He has a GSX550 of about the same vintage and as he's repaired or replaced just about every part on it now there's probably not a lot he doesn't know about them.
What she said. Thumbs Up

They're not bad bikes and can't be knocked as a freebie as long as it's upkeep is low.
Ste's bike was approaching it's 4th MOT since he got it back in Jan(he didn't txt if it had passed) and in 2015 it will be 30year old, I think he's done remarkably well to have kept it like he has, definitely put the work in and it shows. Karma
