I travel quite a lot. As a result I've amassed some useless foreign shrapnel (see photo) - I've done some counting and it's probably about fifty quid's worth, spread across several currencies.

Is there anything I can do with it? I know at airports they have those charity boxes you can put foreign money in, but I'm not taking that sort of change through the X-ray machines. Is there anywhere on the high-street that I can take it? I'm happy to just donate it all to whatever charity can use it.

Might be some use to barter with post WW4.

Personally I would just give someone a blowjob, would be worth more. Thumbs Up

Most airports have a box to dump it in and they send it to charity.

True, but I've only ever seen them on the far side of security - would they consider a thousand coins in a bag as a potential weapon?

I'm surprised that Thomas Cook or someone doesn't have somewhere to put your old foreign change for charity.

Every ASDA I have ever been in his a foreign currency exchange desk, if you take it there they will just give you the equivalent amount in GBP or a currency of your choosing based on current exchange rates.

I believe Thomas Cook shops that have a travel money desk will do the same too.

Cheers!

Notes yes, but I've never found a bureau-de-change that'll take shrapnel like this. Alternative is to just bin it. It's no use to me.

Put it in a jar, write "FREE MONEY" on it and leave it in the local money-changers. Random act of common courtesy.

I've got this all wrong. Change of tack:

I'm selling the last of my foreign shrapnel. I've only got about €35, $15, 15 Swisss Francs a few zloty and Romanian lei left. When it's gone it's gone. Now I'm not saying you should panic buy but...

Cool. Can't imagine it'll take more than half an hour to feel all those coins in. I wonder if individual US cent coins have any value to them at all, or of the cost of processing each one is more than a cent.

Apparantly you can drop foreign currency off in most charity shops, but if you have 8kg or more Age UK will come collect it...

''Age UK, for example, welcomes currency brought in to any Age UK, Help the Aged or Age Concern shop, and also has collection points at any branch of Coventry Building Society and at shopping centres Orchards in Dartford, The Mall Falkirk and The Mall Gloucester.

You can even download a foreign currency recycling poster from the Age UK website if you want to arrange a collection at your local school, college, church or workplace. And, if you manage to collect coinage weighing over 8kg – that is about five mugs full – the charity will arrange to collect it from you. Call them on 0800 169 8787 or email recycling@ageuk.org.uk.''

Theres 30 maybe 35 euros worth. It'd cost more to post than that but drop me a PM next time you're going to be in the Bracknell/Woking area and you can have it for nowt. Just make a donation to your local air ambulance or something if you feel like you need to pay for it.

I pickedf up the euro selection of coinage from a not so angry jonny earlier today and spent far too long talking shit in his direction.

I'll be making a donation on his behalf when i get home. In the meantime i'll be feeding the coinage into various machinery starting in a mo when i go downstairs to get myself a coffee of sorts

It's all a facade.

Good to meet you anyway, and the mighty Pan. I assume this post means you made it to Paris speedy and safe. Give my regards to that funny square arch thing at La Defense - I used to work just next to that.

I've met a couple of BCFers now and everyone's been really nice. This place is actually a pretty cool community of people. Thumbs Up
