Doubt it is a clutch causing the problem, it certainly sounds like a fueling issue.
Is there an air leak between the carb and cylinder? With it idling, spray some WD40 or simmilar flamable subtance around the intake. IF the revs change then theres a leak.
Did you put the float back in correctly? ____________________ Eat well, poo hard

As said, sounds like a fueling issue, however it wont hurt you to check to see if the air box (where the air filter is housed) is properly connected or just hanging off, i had this problem, as soon as i used any revs it would bog and cut out, not sure if its the same lay out on a yam but definitely worth a try, or the tube out going from the air box could have perished, or as stated most likely disconnected. ____________________ Malaguti F12 Phantom-Dead, Suzuki AY50- Dead, NRG power DD LQ, CBR125.

Its fueling, 100%.Fuel is being restricted so the fuel bowl is not filling quick enough.
Next check would be the fuel tap. Remove the fcuel pipe and vacuum pipe from the from the carb and suck on the vacuum one. Fuel should flow quickly out the other, a trickle is no good.
Also try running it with the filler cap removed, a breather could be blocked. ____________________ Eat well, poo hard
