Hello,

I can't be arsed to do a full ride report but any questions feel free and I'm sure either me or Tatters will answer them.

Here's a summary - we went to Morocco to do some trail riding. We caught the ferry to Bilbao, rode through Spain, ferry over to Morocco, rode around a bit then did the reverse of the journey out but came back from Santander.

Anyway, a bit of my thoughts on Morocco to set the scene. Here is what I learned:

Culture

All Moroccan men must spend their entire day standing at the side of the road while their hag wives toil in a nearby field. The man sometimes must stand halfway up a deserted mountain road. If the man is in a town then standing at the side of the road is not allowed, he must cross the road.

The national sport is seeing how many people and/or animals it is possible to cram into a 1970's Mercedes or Citroen.

Driving

You must at all times overtake the vehicle in front. ALWAYS. Extra points are awarded for overtaking on a blind bend up a mountain, while doing no more than 0.5 mph faster than the overtake-ee, with 13 people/animals in the car and grinning madly, proudly exposing the last rotten tooth in your mouth.

Parking

You must park no more than 2 inches away from the nearest blue Yamaha motorcycle, even in a vast, empty area. When leaving you must roll forward and hit the Yamaha, again grinning like a cretin proudly exposing 'Gnasher'.

Anyway, some pictures.

Lovely country shame about the people, Most of the Arabs are pretty much sub-human scum they dump rubbish every where they can (plastic bags are the worst) and act like children always begging and hassling for money. This is my 3rd trip there so you get used to handling them, far better south away from the city's and towns down towards the Atlas mountains and Sahara where the Berbers live no hassle and quite reserved polite people.

Joes, XT suffered a broken clutch cable which is normal wear and tear which we replaced with a spare. My G650XC got a dented front rim after wacking into a boulder plus the starter motor bearings failed and the bendix gear started to stick but that did,nt stop the electric start from working.

Did they not mention "The children, something for the children"?

I got hassled by a girl beggar in a wheelchair in Fes. She just would not leave me alone and showed no signs of ever going away. Thank god I am a child of the 60s/70s and had been given extensive Dr Who and the Daleks training. First set of stairs I saw I was away!!

Question; What would you do differently next time? Less stuff? Different stuff?

I'd stay away from the cities. The stuff we took was pretty much spot on, I'd definitely take the XT again. It was far better off road than I hoped, really easy to ride and didn't knacker me out like some other bikes I've ridden off road.

It's a tool tube - it keeps the weight low down and save space in the bags.

Tatters has some photos as well, plus some video which I'm sure he'll post up at some point.

Nice trip, love the photos Very Happy

One thing that I can't get my head around with trips like this though, what do you do about fuel? Or is the tank range on those bikes just really good?

We fitted bigger fuel tanks, a 200 mile minimum range is needed.

Those F1,s were very low for aircraft going at that speed, l doubt you could get away with pulling a stunt like that in a western country. Cool

Almost forgot, Joe do you remember the two grown men holding hands in that village? Before we came across this l was telling Joe about how even though Homosexuality is big no no in Islamic countries, its seen as normal for grown men to hold hands in public and flirt around with each other like a couple of gay lovers and then 10-20 mins later we come across two rough looking blokes in there 40,s holding hands walking through a village. Laughing

I feel a BCF tour coming on.

Don't mention it to Tatters quite yet, he needs to get over this one first. Just don't suggest going back to Morocco.
