Just got my first pair of leather troos with attached knee sliders. Question is, do most people leave them on. Yes, I ride a CBR600, but I'm not a knee down kinda person. Was thinking of removing them and sticking them back on if I ever do a track day/ride faster on the road (ahem!!). Do they actually provide any more protection(theres knee armour aswell).
Thanks

I don't yet own any leather trousers (all textiles) but I do want some with sliders, because I often get worried when I'm going for it a bit and hanging off that I'll scuff up my trousers...or that it'll rip through my trousers and blood up my knee...

I was just curious if they offer any more protection really.

Not really, that's not what they're there for. Any impact they take will just be transferred straight through to the knee armour anyway as they tend to be rather rigid.

In theory I guess they offer a tiny bit more protection, but they also give an extra block that can get caught on things and twist your knee. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Well they do in as much as you'd have to slide a hell of a long way to wear through that small patch of your leathers Laughing

I'd almost have thought they might make it slightly more likely to break your lower leg by putting a sheer force on the bone if you come down on it rather than on nice flat tarmac.

Thats kinda where my mind is. Something to catch and twist. As someone says 6 of one etc I guess.

I expect you'll be better without them for protection.
A big block of plastic is more likely to get caught by stuff, as well as to dig in at a more focused point etc.

Only use them on trackdays - and even then I don't touch down unless I really try...

I think they look a bit silly on the road tbh and add to the 'power-ranger' image the public has of many of us.

I've just got my first pair of leather pants and have taken the knee sliders off. I've got no intention of getting my knee down, and saw no reason to have a pair of plastic pork-pies sticking out of my kecks. One mate asked where they were, but he rides a Blade and has titanium ones for fancy sparks. Yeah. Not for me, thanks.

Sorry - you're right. I went to school in the US and have an American wife, so the odd Americanism does come out every so often.
