What form do the restrictions take? Top whack is 32mph and it's not exactly nippy getting there.

I'm expecting possibly a nylon block in the inlet or a washer in the exhaust and possibly even an electrical limiter?

cheers for any input.

c'mon guys n gals; there must be someone with a little '50cc gen or workshop experience? Smile

(I simply refuse to pay the quoted £165 odd that the garage want to do the work, for what is probably going to amount to no more than removing a couple of restrictive 'bungs' and maybe a jet change?)

Basicly theres 2 restricters i think.
1 the exhaust-there should be a blind pipe which limits revs
either get a sport exhaust or get in cut and welded

2 the variator-take the side case off the reveal 2 pulleys left one is variator
u have to take this off in order to get the unit
best jam a chizel to stop motion and use the spanner to turn the nut.
once and if u get in there should be a plate in the variator restricing the rollers if u take the plate out u will get 45-49mph
do the exhaust and ull get 50-55mph
hope this helps

sorry for pulling out such an old post...
does this mean theres no washer in the variator?
would anyone have a pic of this plate inside the variator?
i took the cover off and there was no washer in the variator so i give up and assumed there was no way to get it faster, until i found this thread.would appreciate any more info on this...

As above
Change the rollers in the variator lighter rollers gives quicker acceleration but lower top end speed heavy will et you a higher top end speed but longer to get there.

An Exhaust needs to be a specific fit a cut and shut will cause more probs , try a technigas one, or an aftermarket road legal.Moist new ones are better then the stock type fitted.

I had an old Honda Sh50 with a foam filter and zost up to 42 mph she went full throttle (down hill) lol

My old moped was a vivacity 50......i got it derestricted by simply letting the bike shop do it.

All they did was cut off the pipe on the exhaust (the one that sticks out and is closed at the end) and they welded it back up.....this let me moped go from 30-32mph to about 40-45 depending if i had a tailwind or not Very Happy

Cost me £40 including having the carb 'de-gummed' and everything 'serviced'....not bad price considering i would of done more damage doing it myself Razz

To be honest, all these crazy fools telling you they will do 55-60 are just talking out of their shit holes.....a liquid cooled one might do 55 at a push, if its had an aftermarket exhaust, variator/rollers done, airfilter and all that malarky but there isn't any point really. After all they are only commuters.

But it is a damn sight safer doing 45 rather than 30 (you get a lot less idiots trying to overtake you in stupid places, driving right up your arse end etc)...but you still get a lot!

If she on learner plates, just hope you know her license and insurance will be invalid if she is...if she has a full license...then go de-restricting mental Smile

Anyone 17 or older could ride a derestricted 50cc moped on L plates.

found out today that the zorst thats on it now is a sports zorst, called a technigas?sommit like that.and it still doesnt do more than 35mph,but it pretty quick getting to that.its also had the new rollers that go with the zorst.im just hoping he hasnt took the plate outta the variator and doing that will get the top sppeed up a bit...anyway thanks.

if you've got a sports pipe on it and its still slow
its probably an "e" marked pipe
they're only allowed to give you a 10% power boost
there will be a restrictor in the exhaust, usually near the front,
you should remove this

the restrictors are fitted for euro approval,
because otherwise the exhausts are not approved to be sold as for road use,
pipes that come without these restrictions are usually sold as "race use only"

confusingly, its only a fail at test time if the pipe has "race only" or similar stamped on it, they dont need an "e" mark to pass mot

well if does still have a restrictor im not taking that out cos its too loud as it is.
its just went through an m.o.t. so its legal as it is now....my bro isnt looking for loads o power from it just a little extra top speed...

the restrictor wont make it much quieter, just slower
a sports exhaust is a total and utter waste of money if you leave the restrictor in, you may as well refit the stock pipe

the standard exhaust derestricted is actually as good as any
especially if you've got the one with the separate silencer

i've got a speedfight until i do my bike test/cbt, i think they're the same engine

mine is simply derestricted but gets up to 55 on the speedo, although that's really 50mph

the sports zorst was allready when my brother got the bike...he didnt get the stock one so hes stuck with the sports one till he finds a reasonably priced stock one...he doesnt even want 50mph outta it he says hed be happy with 45mph,just to keep with the flow of traffic.thats why i dont wanna go messin bout with the sports pipe...
i tryed to take the variator off the day and couldnt get it off..couldnt find anything to stop it from spinning.and not sure which way the nut turns,i think it turns anti clockwise???to get it off.might have to invest in a inpact wrench Very Happy ive been looking for an excuse to buy wanna them....
