I'm sure you did but..
When trying to get the rotor off you did take the bolt out of the end of the crank?
Looks like something has been turning on the bolt head?

Cool thread btw.

the bolt came out easy with an impact gun

that was the centre bit of the harmonic puller. i bollocked it up so much the m12 stud started to mushroom into the head of the rotor bolt (which was wound out a bit)

Ah ok that explains it.

Certainly doesn't want to come off does it.
Have you taken the bolt right out? There may be a thread in the centre of the rotor that a bolt can be wound in to press against the end of the crank. This is how nc rotors are removed

yeh the bolt would need to be left in but unscrew enough as there is a step in the fly wheel. also after a few heat cycles i would have tightened it up and walked away and left for a day or two. i have the same porblem in the past and left it over night only to get woken in the middle of the night to the sound of a massive bang as the fly wheel popped off.

how ever the last time i had real issues i took the whole bottom end to a local bike shop that had a 10 ton hydrolic puller

If your stud extractor doesn't appear. wind two nuts down onto the studs and lock them together, then put a spanner on the bottom nut an unwind them Wink

doesnt work. just unwinds both nuts or bends the stud.

i think suzuki had shares in loctite during the 80's or something.

Whaaaa???? I've used that method to get rusty old head studs out of 135s' and it normally either snaps the stud or wind them out nicely.

I love looking at this project, doing a good job chris. I'm a little worried as I have the same gsxr and my rotor came off the stator & crank simple.

Hope i didn't miss anything.[/img] Exclamation I bought the bike as a non runner, the stator bolt had come loose and chucked itself through the RHS cover.

more nice bits of metal, plus some decent cams.

will get these split down and build the best out of the two.

i have some plans for the other engine, but that can wait for now.

as a bit of a sideline to this im trying a few mods.

with a bit of twiddling a gsxr 1000 k5 or k7 alternator should fit on, the rotor is a lot lighter than the stock one, so the engine should pick up quicker.

the stock alternator coils are bolted to the engine and the flywheel sits over them.

on the k5>k7 one the coils are bolted inside the cover and the flywheel faces outwards.

firstly find a katana 400 clutch cover:

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/GK73A/IMAG1212Medium_zps51043db8.jpg

do some solidworks

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/GK73A/altcover_zps30f57bb8.jpg

(note the o-ring instead of paper gasket)

next i need to buy a new alternator and fit it. then just work out the position of the rotor mounts and its all done.

if anyones got a gsxr 1000 k5>7 alternator they dont want please let me know.

I should know better than to quiz you, but why K5>K7.

The K5 and 6 are the same, it then changed from the K7 onwards.. and if you were going for the K7, you could include the K8 in your search?

i just used the 2 because there the starting points for that model.

so basically k5>k8 inclusive.

the k7/8 is about 100g lighter than the k5/6 bit im not that fussed about that.

https://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad233/chris-bracey/GK73A/IMAG1230Medium_zps6ef5191f.jpg

the big hole in the middle will have an m30x1.5 thread or something milled into it, and a screw in plug so you can rotate the engine via the crank.

It most certainly is, expecting when the 76 rear wheel goes on my 73 swingarm in my 71 frame, that the front sprocket will need offsetting to get alignment back with rear wheel Laughing
