I doubt the differences are drastic but I suspect that construction could well very as well as the cut and shape I have mentioned and ventilation,
Because the forces and likely impacts involved in crashing motorcycles and cars can vary greatly I imagine.
But then it's just an assumption based on the fact you don't often see them cross-marketed and I remember being told that Simpson helmets were not legal for use as motorcycle Helmets and I thought they were an automotive helmet.

Cheers,
Mac.

Car racing specific helmets tend to fail EU/BS rules on peripheral vision, because they normally have relatively small eye apertures; otherwise, they generally exceed impact test standards.

On the other side of that, ordinary motorcycle helmets tend to fail the hardest impact tests set by the SA (Snell) and FIA standards.

The main difference is, the SA/FIA score down helmets where the liner fully compresses at relatively low impact speeds, so it could be said a helmet that scores high in these tests, transmits more shock in low speed impacts.

There are people who can give you a decent argument on both sides of the coin, for me, you pays your money and takes your chance.

I bought my first Simpson in 1981 and I've been wearing them ever since; never had a problem with peripheral vision (surely anybody who rides a bike has their head spinning round like something from the Exorcist, most of the time?!) and they stopped being illegal when the law changed to allow anything that was tested to an equivalent standard to BS/EU.

As it happens, the only helmet I've ever really tested was a Bell Star III, which I was wearing when I headbutted the back of a parked car, at around 40mph; that was a helmet that formed the basis of a car race model and it did a brilliant job of protecting me, so I'm happy with that kind of lid.

Oooh cool, thanks that's good to know now that I'm in the market for a new lid.. Well on that note, I used to wear this for skirmishing and off roading.

Well nothing special. I bought this for its features at a reduced price.

https://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc408/Class37188/photo.jpg

Features.......
Bluetooth compatible

5 point ventilation

Pin lock ready

Removable lining

Pump up cheeck pads for more secure fitting (very handy cause bought off the net)

Quick secure/release ratchet chin fixing

Internal tinted drop down visor (useless as it turns out. These visors should be polarised to be affective. All the do is tint the glare, not cut through it).

why are so many of you opting for tinted visors? What do you do if you get caught riding at night or on a drak grey day?

I go for a clear visor and sunglasses underneath.

Cause I suffer on a nearly daily bassis of migraine. I've tried glasses underneath but they obscure my wing mirrors and lifesaver views to the point that there is no point in doing them.

Is there a lid with polarised internal visor? It's something that the lid producers really should pick up on.

Don't ride at night really...

Grey days are fine, but yeah sometimes I just change it to clear before I go out, like for training and test I'll have to wear the gay clear one Mad

Serious answer Krad:
I wear a dark visor the majority of a time.. I wear a clear visor with anti fog insert if I know I'm going to get caught out late or in crap weather, but there have been many times when I've unwittingly got caught out in either or both with the full tint.

Surviving then requires a mixture of concentrating on the white lines in the road to see where the fuck you are going, keeping full beam on at all times, squinting when cars are oncoming to retain *some* vision.. and if the weather's actually atrocious then yes, riding with the visor up Mad

Cheers,
Mac.
