A few more updates for you.

Painted the swing arm in satin black.

The engine is almost back together, but it looks like I need a new cylinder head as the front one has picked up on the exhaust cam and it’s too far gone to save it but its back together for now so I can crack on with getting the engine in the frame.
https://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad274/jayelwell/diego/ducati/IMAG0607_zps800dd54a.jpg

I built the bike back up on Sunday even though I was suffering with man flu, that’s just how hard I am. Wink
https://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad274/jayelwell/diego/ducati/IMAG0609_zps2221468b.jpg

I got the engine in but the brackets still need some work. I have to machine some spacers and bits and pieces to get the chain alignment right.

Further back you mean, I know and I would if it was not going to be so much of a pain in the ass.

I did weigh it with the bathroom scale trick, the front came in at 61.9kg and the rear was 59kg so the weight distribution is not far off, I’m just a bit concerned about wear the main output shaft is.

I’m waiting on a front sprocket to arrive when it does I can offer the chain up and then I should be able to tell if it’s going to work.

Ok so where did we get to, oh yes

Sorting the brackets out with some top hats as the holes that were pre drilled was all over the shop.
https://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad274/jayelwell/diego/ducati/IMAG0624_zps7cd2fc4e.jpg
[]https://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad274/jayelwell/IMAG0626_zps6d14b414.jpg[/img]

Machined the x brace for the brackets.
https://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad274/jayelwell/diego/ducati/IMAG0645_zps77f83d0d.jpg

Talk about a tight fit, had to take out loads of material so the TB would clear the frame and fit down on to the inlets.
https://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad274/jayelwell/diego/ducati/IMAG0658_zps6de29b2e.jpg

once the engine was in it was time to sort the rear subframe out ready for the seat.

Today I’ve been working on the custom exhaust that is giving me major headaches, I’m out of the starting blocks with it but I feel there is a long way to go with this bit.

The exhaust exiting the front cylinder exits quite low...watch it doesn't make the fairing brittle with heat.

Looking good. Cool

I may not be putting the fairing back on yet. If I don’t I’m not sure if I will keep that seat, i may change it for something more suitable.

Does seem to defeat the object of going to all that effort, only to cover it up.

Isn't part of the point of doing this kind of thing, to show people you've done it?

Hey J81 - Brooklyn, New York here.. .. Boss, that's a hell of a job.. I actually have a 07 1098 with a blown motor and a low mileage 1998 Tiller motor sitting in my garage, I actually have two TL1000r's .. This is really nice work bro. I think I'm going to follow your lead and drop that tiller motor right in to the 1098. Can't wait to see you finish.

Thanks XTRIKX, but I would have thought that the 1098 engine is a much better engine than the TL and a lot less involving to fit/rebuild than putting the TL engine in?

That is unless you like a challenge? Laughing

But hey who am I talk.

Update, after losing my job a few months ago and finding out that my best mate Diego (my dog) has heart failure I lost all motivation to do anything with the bike.

But seeing as I’m also going to be a dad in January I thought I had better get a move on with it before all my free time gets taken up.

So what’s been going on, well I finally got the exhaust finished and what a ball ache that was but I’m pretty happy with it for now. I may redo the rear header at some point but for now it was time to move.
https://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad274/jayelwell/diego/ducati/IMAG0693_zps6541e021.jpg

Next was to fit a new front cylinder head as the other one had picked up on the exhaust cam and it was to fare gone to save.

So off with the old and on with the new.
https://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad274/jayelwell/diego/ducati/IMAG0724_zps7869d952.jpg

In my attempt to make a faster free revving motor I removed any excess weight from the cams by taking off the scissor gears and auto de-comp mechanism.
All this weighs in at nearly half a kilo.

https://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad274/jayelwell/diego/ducati/IMAG0742_zps0f7430aa.jpg

This weekend I managed to finish off painting my farther in-laws Showmans living wagon and while I had the spray gun out I painted the engine brackets and rear sub frame gloss black.

You have changed their location on your photo bucket account, you will have to relink them all.

It’s there to quieten down the drive train noise.

The four springs hold the scissor gear against the cam idler gear, this effectively takes any slack out from between the cams and the idler gear and is supposed to stop most of the rattling.

But seeing as I’ve got the custom exhaust I don’t think I’m going to hear anything anyway Laughing .
