I would make the walk into town and grab that socket if I were you matey. If its only finger tight it cold come loose with the vibration etc

Edit- cant think of any other way unless you have pliers to do it bit by bit but that would be a ball ache

If you got it out with that spanner then surely it would go back in with it? Are you sure you haven't cross threaded it? Wind the fucker out and have a looksy.

I have smashed it in the floor so many times it doesn't no what a 16mm hex socket is any more.
Well, that was clearly an excellent plan of action. What did you hope to achieve?

Something aint right if you can't thread it in almost all the way down without a socket/spanner. I'd say if it's going tight enough for a plug wrench to slip off n its that far out the block you've fooked the thread on the plug or the head.

when putting a plug in it's usually best to turn it slowly the wrong way till you feel the thread clicking in to place , as if it starts incorrectly it can turn in to an expensive mistake .

screw it in finger tight then a quarter of a ratchet turn is a pretty good rule. If it's screwing in then going loose the head may be fooked, in which case you'll be dropping the engine out to get the head re-tapped.

Happened to me recently. No bullshit, plopped the plug in, wound it finger tight, whacked the socket and extenders on, tiny bit of ratchet movement and clunk! The metal bit of the plug had snapped in the thread, mate got the rest of the plug out with a pushrod, and he dropped the engine out to go to a garage as we thought it would be a head off job.

Garage re-tapped it, all is well now, but NGK and halfords have yet to respond to my complaint and request for re-imbursement. Safe to say I now use Denso's, better plugs anyway Laughing

I think that you may struggle to find a 16mm 1/4'' drive deep socket.

Did he really write that?! I'm glad people have overlooked his childish tantrum and offered help anyway - the world needs more people who give impatient youths a second chance!

I am failing to understand how the tool was able to get the plug out but not able to tighten it back up. And it's not as if the plug was down a deep hard-to-access hole what couldn't even be seen down. FFS.

This is what happens when kids are given Nintendos for xmas instead of Meccano. Rolling Eyes
