Elllooo

I'm helping my Dad "Modernise" the spare bedroom at home.
New carpet, bed, paint ect but also providing a new electrical plug and aerial as the room originally had only a single plug.
We also decided to mount the TV to the wall nearest these new plugs and this is when we hit a problem.
The standard length of the TV's plug cord, is too short to reach the new plug from the wall mount. When it does it leaves the cable under alot of tension and running diagonally across the wall Thumbs Down
Real modern
Evil or Very Mad

The Question:
As the power supply is "hard wired" into the TV unit, simply buying a new cord isn't a option.
So would it be viable, to cut the cord just after it leaves the TV to join and extend the cord to any length? Ultimately hiding the joint behind the TV and the cable in some capping.

My Dad is a very knowledgeable guy, if I die knowing 50% of what he does I'll consider myself lucky. But he wasn't completely confident this idea would work, or at least not cause any negative effects for the TV.

So I ask for the knowledge of the BCF collective
What say ye? Rolling Eyes

Thank You

(Side note: The TV is an old LCD flatscreen, nothing fancy but by no means a relic. It is years Out of warranty and for its purpose we cannot justify buying a new TV)

Yeah, just get a joining block from B&Q or similar.

Not chocolate block connectors. Laughing

Just get a 4 plug cable extension then you can plug your hair drier and curling tongs in while you watch TV.

If it's going to be a permanent feature, I'd be tempted to run a spur from the ground level socket up to a single socket behind the TV. It'd be a neater and safer solution than bodging the cable and it'll be plug and play whenever your dad has to replace the TV. Depending on the construction of the walls, you might even be able to fish the cable up to the correct height so you don't have to ruin your plaster. Thumbs Up

Instead of cutting the cable at the TV end, cut it at the plug end. Go to B&Q they have a loads of connectors for the job.

I have exteded lots of things at the unit, hoovers, paint strippers, mowers etc, but these days the way they are fixed together they are not meant to be opened once made.

The things on the wall are called "sockets". Best leave the electrical stuff to your dad, eh Wink
