You mean you're not using energy saving bulbs?! That's like, illegal or some shit Laughing

I bought winter gloves this week, been riding through winter with my summer gloves on and a cheapo £1 pair of fleece gloves inside. Got to work on Tuesday and thought my fingers were going to drop off, so went the motorbike shop at lunch time and bought 'the warmest gloves they sell'. Still not good enough cos my fingers are still frozen when I get home Crying or Very sad

Yes it bloody is.

I rarely feel the cold.

Days like today make me feel like buying a laptop so that I can sit in bed with my electric blanket on and post from there all day.

Sad

It's awfully cold.

My hands have started cracking to the point where I've even been bleeding a little between my fingers from being out on the bike. They look awful, even now I'm inside in the warm. Been getting progressively worse for a month or so now.

I've bought some new gloves and inner gloves though, so should get better coupled with lots of E45 cream!

It's been pretty cold today, two of my damaged fingers turned blue and I had to stop work and go sit in the cafe to warm up, such was the pain.

Freezing.

Did 180 miles on Friday evening. Had to stop 3 times due to fingers being painfully cold and my balaclava displacing itself. Had on jeans, textile trousers, thick leather boots, t-shirt, 2 jumpers, textile jacket, balaclava and winter gloves. Didn't make much difference! Was snowing on the ride!

Was riding a lot of the journey with one hand on the engine casing to keep it warm. Got some dodgey looks whilst warming my right hand on the engine casing... Laughing

Just as I decided to remove the heated grips as it was getting warmer Laughing

Meh, as a baby I was put outside to have my naps in the winter. I was only taken inside when it got about -30C.

Cold is -35C. The current +2C is balmy and perfectly pleasant. Wink

I've seen -40 in Poland. A fizzy drink froze in my girlfriend's pocket as we were walking. And it still didn't feel as cold as -5 does in the UK. Something makes UK winter feel colder than it should be. Humidity? Wind? Pressure? I have no idea.

Anyway, it's getting towards the end of Feb. This is probably the last of the really cold weather.

Your 'winter' coats are shit.

I'm not sure how you reach that conclusion, I've got some decent baselayers, Merino gear, thick warm coats... and I didn't say I couldn't keep warm.

There's a chap from Hungary at work, says he tried to moan about the cold to his mum back home and she laughed at him!

Humidity. Same as summers are hotter than they should be. In Finland, you can easily have +30C and it's pleasant, not a sweat fest like it is in the UK.

As we say, there's no such thing as it being too cold, only not being suitably dressed. Wink Also, a lot of 'feeling cold' is a state of mind; fight the feeling and you'll not feel it.

When there was all the 'frozen Britain' nonsense around December 2010, I was absolutely fine in a Canadian ski jacket.

Conversely, when I wore a M&S winter jacket outside here the other day, I immediately turned around and went back inside to change out of it - it was too thin.

As Paivi says, it's down to being suitably dressed and also the humidity. People balk at buying proper ski jackets and winter gear for the same reason your local council doesn't have any snow plows: oh, but this is Britain, it doesn't happen here, etc etc. Winter is not wet: it's very dry.

And my back is fucked.
