Well, a week and a day ago I picked up my first motorcycle, I paid 400 pounds for it which I had earned during my school summer holidays. I was going to buy a lexmoto arrow or street untill my brother stopped me and showed me the nsr. I was put off by the mileage and age but he told me parts were cheap and it would be reliable. Was planning on hiring a van to pick it up with would have cost around 80 pounds with fuel, instead I found a trailer on ebay near-ish to the bike and got my dad to buy it and pickup my bike at the same time with some money contributed by me. My dad (after purchasing on ebay) told me he would lie the bike flat in the trailer but thank fuck one of his friends convinced him otherwise. I ordered 2 decent straps and 4 cheap ones, luckily they came the day of pickup. Luckily all was fine and I got the bike back.

The bike started first time like the owner said, however it would die when putting into first gear and then as soon as the throttle twisted. The next day (despite being the first bike I've ever looked at closely I took the carb out and cleaned it (with brake + suspension fluid). Put it back together and it wouldn't start because of battery. Over the week carb cleaner and mixed o rings, mirrors and l plates came in the post. The carb had a leak and the battery wouldn't charge. I cleaned the carb with carb cleaner and put together but it leaked. On Friday my brothers friend came over and took out the float pin (which was stuck in) and then it worked, however there was still a leak. The bike ran for a mile or so and broke, blocked jets and stuff.
Turns out it was because the air filter was falling apart and going inside the carb The leak wasn't due to the float being at wrong height and was that the overflow tube was split causing fuel to leak out constantly. I've put glue over and it's fixed. I rode but the engine wouldn't go in high revs (float too low). Took apart and raised and now the bike runs fine (without air filter). I have ordered a spare carb for parts and backup. I have also ordered an air filter. Next plan is to get a Mot and Tax then I can legally ride it.
I am very pleased with the bike, went 16 miles today (didn't know how bad it was to ride without filter) and it was great. I'm getting practice as this is my first time on a geared bike (CBT on moped). My favorite gear at the moment is 2nd, It can run at 10mph and 40mph It is great for me going slow around the small lanes and great when you hit the power band.

Nice bike
I'd be tempted to get that exhaust off and give it a lick of hammerite before it rusts through. ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

After my brother had a go on in today it would not rev and would die, it was time to put the other carb in, the glue was coming apart and clogging jets. I was thinking about just swapping over the float bowl but I just did the whole thing. The carbs are slightly different, my original had a longer throttle stop screw, was cleaner and had different fuel mixture screw setup. It works but may be running a bit rich as if you put the throttle on full very quickly it floods but I think it's fine.
I have also estimated + calculated that it should cost 13p a mile for fuel I need to get a part time job |

Can you not get the correct rubber pipes for the carb?
Also gluing split pipes is just asking for more trouble down the road,
get some more tubing and do it properly if you want it to be reliable
I had a foxeye for 4 years, daily transport and if looked after it will be as reliable as a 4 stroke every day of the week!
It is worth mentioning that you can get a decent piston/ring set for about £40 online, check the compression as it may be worth giving it a fresh top end.
Also 2 stroke, buy on-line and in bulk (5 litre bottles and you will get top grade stuff very very very cheap!).
I can tell you if you keep out the power-band you can get > 75 MPG, all be it a very boring 75MPG
Pin it in every gear, everywhere and you'll be hard pressed to see south of 50MPG though!
I am assuming its de-restricted?
Keep us updated as to how you get on!
Best regards

@skatefreak It was the metal tube inside the float bowl which was cracked which I don't know weather it's possible to replace, I could have put a rubber overflow tube over the top but I replaced the carb.
Regarding the piston kits you don't think I'd need to get it re bored?
I have given the exhaust a 400ml tin of spray paint
