Oh right, I see what you meant. Well, yes it does bud. I had the bike for 18 months and hit 84 on the speedo fairly regularly on the flat and downhill, and like I say that's when the rev limiter kicks in. I'm 13 stone in all my gear, tucking in was of course a necessity, as was full use of the gears in every gear. In particular 4th and 5th needed to be rinsed, otherwise 6th can't get up to full speed. You have to have the momentum there to make it easy on her, lol. You'll just have to take my word for it mate, I've no reason to lie, I haven't owned the bike for a long while now Smile

Alpha, the YBR is a very different bike to the R125 mate. A few of the guys that ride with us had YBRs and they could never keep up in both acceleration and top speed.

I regularly saw 90 on my CBR speedo.

It never did more than 72-75. Speedos are wildly inaccurate, GPS still isn't bang on.

I know they're not the same, I was just saying
If you want fast 125 go 2stroke else you look like a tit regardless, unless you've at least got no L plates

Thumbs Up

Lol, I'm not here to argue with you about it mate, just informing you of my experience with the bike. I had satnav mounted on the bars, and on a steady flat on the A31 got the bike up to 84mph on the speedo, which read 81mph on the Sat Nav. GPS is accurate across a certain distance and constant speed.

Yeah Alpha part of me always wished I'd gone with my first choice, the Aprillia RS125, which would've had more poke! I chose reliability over the extra performance, and the R125 was still a great little learner Very Happy

Why does everyone rave about these R125s? Reckon we need to see what all the fuss is about.

They are about the only 4 stroke 125s that use the full 15 horsepower available without LC20, that's about it really
YBR only makes 10hp bear in mind and is supposed to see 70mph

But, on my new bike, I lol at you caring about 1 or 2 mph over 80, I can corner faster than that Wink

But the current generation do not know of the 2 stroke goodness. 2 strokers were far far more common even 5 years ago. 10+ years ago they were everywhere. Now they are thinning out and getting fewer and further between.

So todays 'yoof' are offered the choice of 4 stroke 125's. Much like the OP, they may be stuck on them for 2 years +. Heck seems the majority of people are inclined to tell him not to do his test for 2 years.

If I was young and forced onto a 4 stroke 125 for a couple of years or more, I would go for a sporty one (or an good dirt bike, personal preferences and all that). If you are looking at the top end of the best 4 stroke 125's the CBR's and YZF's are up there.

All that aside, I quite like the Derbi ITM posted a page back. Thats quite a pretty little bike that. Smile

Yeah the XJ600 is quite nice. Looks good, but not quite enough power there imo. It's meant to be great for a first big bike though, so should do you well for a year or two. They use them at my local training centre now.

RS125's are still knocking around but they are not as common as they were 5 years ago. Are there any current 2 stroke 125 sports still in production?

Also isn’t the RS4 125 a 4 stroke?

I really don't get all the hate. If someone had offered me that to replace the 1977 CG I started out on I would've bitten their arm off. Yes, they're only a 125 and yes, they look faster than they are but they're as fast as is legally possible (on 'L's) and they look great.

Not everyone aspires to ride a yawn-inducing, situpandbeg commuter.

No you cant, its a diversion.

No it's not., it's an XJ600-N Shifty
Diversions have big heads Laughing

And I can, I only ended up on the wrong side of the road once Razz
Honestly having a big bike is new realms, there's a lot more learning and a lot more to think about compared to the 125, amount of throttle has never been important before, now I have to hold a neutral speed and it's important not to chop it else i'll fuck the corner up

Lots of learning to do anyway Thumbs Up
Bike is heavy and underpowered apparently but I wouldn't know, 190kg + engine bars + 90kg of rider makes for a heavy ride though Laughing

Plenty enough bike for me, way more fun than the boring ER5 too

Ah to be honest, I could not give a rats arse of how fast it goes. It gets me to work and back, I can go out for a decent ride and in a comfortable manor, and it looks the part despite being a 125. (and if I crash, well I get back up and the bike starts again and so do I, which has been proven....Right paddy, ian and lama and pyro Razz)

Couple years time you WILL see a bigger bike from me, and a decent once I can assure you all Smile

For now, I will upload some new pictures soon of what changes I have done to my bike since my last post. so keep watching.

BTW it was great to see all them pics of past R125s. Pretty nice all of them.
