So decided to get the bike as much back to its former glory as i possibly can.
Doing it on the cheap where possible, favours etc, most of the technical stuff will be done by kat250(simon) with me helping Smile
This was how i bought it
https://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii265/BIGKERR/photobucket-30073-1365977399499.jpg
To be fair it looks ok in the picture, badly miss matched rattle canned fairings, corroded swingarm, flaking paint on the wheels the list goes on.
Firstly thought id faff about with a couple of things wile simon had the bike to strip down.
Got some vinyl wrap for the side fairings (whatever their called)
https://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii265/BIGKERR/photobucket-35052-1365976681276.jpg
Cracked on with the manky filler cap, polished it to start with but didnt like it so just painted it.
https://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii265/BIGKERR/photobucket-23125-1365214202115.jpg
https://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii265/BIGKERR/photobucket-37141-1365976519990.jpg
Couple of its current state, gave the frame a good clean and polish
https://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii265/BIGKERR/photobucket-33888-1365214170465.jpg
https://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii265/BIGKERR/photobucket-34236-1365214127241.jpg
https://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii265/BIGKERR/photobucket-29059-1365214096204.jpg
Subframes and cradle painted, then fitted along with the engine
https://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii265/BIGKERR/photobucket-32073-1365976346230.jpg
https://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii265/BIGKERR/photobucket-40979-1365976381682.jpg
Still to come, wheels and subrame sandblasted and re painted, worked out a wee deal with my bro in law to decorate his living room for one of his work mates to respray all the fairings (he works in a bodyshop)

Like these bikes. I seem to park next to the same one if I ride into town on a weekday. Look forward to the restoration.

So maybe a tad late but been busy.

The pictures that kerr added do the bike a lot of favors. Underneath hid a lot of horrors mostly just age related really and some previous owners bodges. So as i started stripping and cleaning more things came off till there wasn't much left Laughing

https://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p183/babykat250/af1%20125/DSC_0021.jpg

And a pile of goodies for kerr to clean up https://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p183/babykat250/af1%20125/DSC_0022.jpg

So a few bits cleaned painted and freed up it was good to go back together after tracking down a few bits ie the cdi/coil unit and a new inlet rubber.

Swing arm with a touch of paint lube and clean all working smoothly after sand blasting.
https://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p183/babykat250/af1%20125/DSC_0040.jpg

Wheels waiting to be primed and painted in next few days been sand blasted already.
https://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p183/babykat250/af1%20125/DSC_0041.jpg

And the bike as it sits right now hopefully get it running again and on its own wheels in the next week or two.

give the 'white' plastics a good scrub with some biological washing powder. I've seen some look like new afterwards.

That engine looks rather dirty. Did you not clean it or rebuild it?

Other then that it looks tidy.

I could have spent a bit more time cleaning the engine, kinda wish i had really, and yes the indicators are bloody fugly but its going to be up for sale pretty soon, don't really want to be spending any more pennies than i really need to.
Had a look at the piston all looks good, probably replace the rings in near future though to be safe.
Need to get a reg/rec as the lights are draining the battery Sad

Hi

Looking good.

As to the charging, is it charging at all? Does the voltage go up at all as you rev the engine?

Years ago on my Futura it would sometimes chose to charge the battery and sometimes not. A new battery would fix the issue for about 6 months then it would come back. Seemed almost like if the battery was almost fully charged when you started the bike it decided not to charge and stayed non charging. Flatten the battery like this and then bump start the bike and it would charge the battery fine. Doubt this helps though Razz .

All the best

Keith

When we had the multimeter on it it was charging a tiny bit with the lights off, but drains pretty quick with them on, it rides fine after a bump start, and the lights do work but bump starting on a roundabout after a stall aint fun Shocked
Its a brand new battery that's in it just now.
