SO I picked this up tonight. Its not pretty, but it only cost me £50 plus an old phone. its reasonable low mileage and had new plugs, bearings, filters and carbs cleaned balanced and new jets. I have found the following is needed.

new pegs
New levers
Mirrors
New fork seals
New Silencer
New ignition
New Indicator

I need to repair the top fairing and mudguard and fix side fairings Bloke said he had 130 from it Laughing , he also told me it weighs 400kilios! Shocked

Took 3 of us to get it in the car, I forgot how heavy 4 cylinder engines are.

Yea I chuckled! My R1 was like only 170kilo dry or there about's! Not fussed on speed, getting old so just want comfy and mileage as fancy doing road trips Smile

looking online looks as its downpipes rotted away not endcan. But that is one ugly endcan so will replace anyway.

I had one and ran it into the ground. I did put about 30k miles on it though and learnt a fair bit about bikes from it. Keep on top of maintaining the brakes, I went through a total of 5 calipers I think - 3 fronts and two rears. They're not hard to work on though and I rode through all weather and lived next to the sea so not exactly easy going on it!

The most I ever had out of mine was 118mph (on a private road) but it was absolutely screaming and was downhill with a tailwind! In the end the clutch thrust bearing ate itself and the bike was very tired by that point so I got the ZRX to replace it.

For some bizarre reason I quite liked my old one. I've no idea why though, so it's probably rose tinted specs. Laughing

Definitely rose tinted specs. I remember you posting when you had it and you didn't like it, then the longer you've not had it the more positive your posts have been towards them Laughing

I liked mine in the sense that it was reliable, economical and dependable and was more of an enabler of getting to and from good times with some element of enjoyment while riding it but it never gave me the ace-factor feeling that the ZRX gives me every time I get on it. Different kind of enjoyment, I suppose it depends what you're after. I'd have another if I needed a reliable hack though, especially seeing how cheap they are!

Took to a garage as I gave up trying to get it to fire on all 4 pots. He advised compression 50psi down on all 4. Plus almost all of the electrics were replaced, as well as carbs. and the fact it was run on water too Think at least the rings gone.

Well a lot has been done this weekend! I have managed to get the mechanics together, and go her fired up, here is a breif rundown.

Well Friday all my pices I needed to get up and running had arrived.

1m of 7mm hose
1m of 6mm hose
1m of 4mm vacum hose
Fuelcap
Cable oiler.

I wanted to get the fuel line in purple, like the vacumn hose, however they did not do fuel line version of it. So instead I have the cotton coated version of the fuel hose.

https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r232/stuartkeith/DSC_0189_zpsorh9yd55.jpg

I drilled and hammered the old lock from the fuel cap. Unfortunate the other half lost all my keys to all of my bikes so I have to replace them all.

https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r232/stuartkeith/DSC_0190_zps24bfin8s.jpg

I removed all of the old fuel system the main pipes are ok, however I wanted to route them better and get the fuel filter somewhere more safe, and convienient.

https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r232/stuartkeith/DSC_0192_zpssxi9ap0g.jpg

New fuel cap is all fitted and looking good!

https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r232/stuartkeith/DSC_0191_zpsvbf6ymnh.jpg

Started to put the carbs back on and plumb in the fuel system then noticed a small issue.

https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r232/stuartkeith/DSC_0193_zpss42bi42v.jpg

This engine was off a newer bike, so it was missing the vacum pipe for the fuel pump, and also the oil pipe in the cover for the carb heaters.

https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r232/stuartkeith/DSC_0195_zpsdybyvebp.jpg

So off to the old engine to remove the number 2 inlet stub and swap over.

https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r232/stuartkeith/DSC_0196_zpskllbsfrl.jpg

Um nice and yukky, so a quick clean off later and all better.

https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r232/stuartkeith/DSC_0197_zpssz3vkixn.jpg

So I fit this to the engine and then spend the next 10minutes trying to get the carbs on. I give up. Turns out the stumps are slightly different shape, so the new number 2 was ever so slightly out of alignment with the rest of the carb outlets. Another 30mins later. I have all the old ones off from the engine, and swapped over. Carbs go straight back on!

Next hour was spent measuring the hoses and working the best routing, I then hose clamped some of them, and the other that fitted nice already I put a couple of red cable ties on there to give colour burst.
I sorted the breather hoses and bolted the airbox on and routed everything.

More shiny new stuff turned up yesterday. So I drained the old oil out ant refilled her. Turned her over between showing half full to pump the oil around, damn bike kept starting! Very Happy Not bad with no fuel in tank, just the fuel left in the bowels.

Was out last night so this was all I could do. Today hopefully will clean the studs and refit the exhaust, and then remove the back wheel and clean, lube and replace chain and sprocket.
