I bought this beauty in 2007

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/Matts001212.jpg

It was a long way from the Italian 2 stroke race reps my mates had but at least it always worked.

I had to change a few things on it though as the indicators where just ridiculous and the number plate seemed huge for a small bike. My brother had abandoned a Aerox in the garden and I "borrowed" the indicators from that and set to work.

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/Matts012.jpg

Then a few months later after a BBQ at a neighbours and a few beers we thought it would be a good idea to get the paint out Confused

Attacked the wheels first and it's probably where I should have stopped.

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/Matts038.jpg
https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/Matts019.jpg
https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/Matts050.jpg

But we got the VHT and was just going to give the engine a fresh lick of paint, hence some spray on the tank.

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/Matts011.jpg

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/Matts050.jpg

And that was the last photo I got of the bike before (Being completly honest) I F*cked it right up.

Being young and stupid we thought we'd actually paint the bike and make it fresh and cool but in truth ruined it. Pics can explain.

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/Matts006.jpg
https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/Matts009-1.jpg
https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/Matts010-1.jpg

And it ended up basically ruined by Me

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/GSRX-1.jpg

And then it gets worse....

I basically hated the bike id ruined and it got leant up against the side of the house and abandoned left exposed to the elements and almost forgot about it.

And a work colleague asked me if i still had it and that they wanted it as a project, So they gave me £50 and brought a van to load it up into and thats nearly where the story ended..

They had it for about 2 years without touching it and I happened to mention it one day and they still had it and wanted to get shot of it so I jumped at the chance gave em £50 and went to pick it up.

Now I'm a few years older now and lot less stupid and Not in such a hurry to get everything done.

Got the bike home and stripped it to the frame,

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/gsnow.jpg

And yesterday I picked up a Donor bike so that I can piece together a bike that gave me such happiness before and hopefully can again.

Donor bike...

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/BABC3623-C64E-4FF3-A367-06417F3CEC10-214-00000016AC31F17F.jpg
https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/0E7C1336-F403-4000-B958-498C558D1719-214-000000169CAAC05C.jpg

Just wanted to give everyone a bit of the story behind the bike instead of just getting why don't you just ride the Donor bike etc... Which im sure ill get anyway but wheres the fun in that.

Been pretty slack on the updates I know but Iv made some progress quite a bit in fact but alot of it was doing it myself so didn't take masses of pics,

Set to work on stripping the Donor bike

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/571711.jpg

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/1003114_10152920517935284_131523343_n.jpg

Managed to do the main stuff ie: Forks, Engine, back end done all fairly quickly with no real issues.

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/9374_10152920517750284_207182090_n.jpg

Then it leant up against the garage wall for a while due to other commitments.

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/10176174_10153954592665284_854454038_n.jpg

Decided it was about time to find out why I had pretty much 0 working electrics.

Couldn't believe it when I saw it.....

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/10154480_10153953341170284_1231897663_n.jpg

Pretty much nothing was connected, had a mixture of crap spade connectors sellotape and insulation tape.

For now Iv soldered and heatshrinked them back together but Will be looking for a new loom if anyone in the world has 1.

All electrics working except rear light and brake light and RHS winkers and the Neutral light is intermittent.

Starts at the push of the button but iv ordered a exhaust gasket as it didn't have 1 even though the previous owner spent £70 on a new exhaust but didn't buy a £2 gasket.

Currently sitting like this....

Change those awful grips
Get a new engine mounting bolt
Fit Exhaust washer
(anything else that iv forgotten)
Make sure everything is tightened up and book it in for a MOT

Not really much of an update but my exhaust gasket turned up today so shall be fitting that this weekend.

I'm tempted to fit my old wiring loom as I can't seem to find a GS loom anywhere and the GN plugs seem to be different, Just really don't like the idea of removing a old knackered loom to replace it with another 27 year old loom. At least I know everything worked on mine......A few years ago anyway.

Unless some super expert genius has a link to a loom to fit 1986 GS 125 Wink

one of these parked up next to me in Tamworth yesterday, and it reminded me of this thread!
was odd, but cool, to see 2 mid 80's bikes together.

Post a few more pics eh. GS125 was my first bike, albeit the ES version with the little nose cone.

I'm really gutted not being able to bring a proper update as I'm still looking for a New Wiring loom. Rang suzuki and the part number was super ceded a few times and is no longer available.

I'm tempted to get a GN125 harness just to see what if any differences there is.

Iv dug out the old loom off my original bike and it's not in great shape although not nowhere nearly as bad as the 1 currently fitted to the bike. So if nothing new appears it will be my old 1 to do the job, just hate the thought of taking and old knackered loom off to put and even older slightly less knackered loom on.

Not a massive update especially as it's the first update since May Embarassed

But been having a bit of a play around to see why some of the Instrument lights would work occasionally and dug out my old instrument loom as I knew everything worked including the gear indicator (Except 5th which had a blown bulb.

The old loom has been chopped and taped at some point so I couldn't be bothered to unwind it and possibly fix it.

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/imagejpg1-19.jpg

About 15 minutes of fiddling Laughing

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/imagejpg2-6.jpg

Although contained in the history of this bike is a point at which Iv lost the little Plastic chrome clock surround

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/imagejpg4-2.jpg

Ill have to have a proper hunt around later as technically I should have 2 yet I cant seem to find 1.

Ordered some Front pads this morning which should arrive before the weekend and give me something to do. I would've had it booked in for an MOT if it wasn't for the fact I bought the K1 which has skinted me right out and these electronic pains in the arse.

I know that to you guys this is just some working lights but for me this is hours and hours of fixing someone else's cock ups.

I now have working indicators both sides and front and rear sidelights with a functioning instrument panel, all except the neutral light but I'm so chuffed to have fixed all the other stuff I'm not to bothered by that at the moment.

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/imagejpg1-21.jpg

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/imagejpg2-7.jpg

Can't wait to put some new pads in, some air in the tyres and a pair of new brake light switches and it's MOT time.

Good work Thumbs Up

Wiring can be a headache at the best of times but when you're dealing with someone elses bodges it can have you in knots Evil or Very Mad

Very satisfying when you get results though Thumbs Up

Yeah I was pretty chuffed when the indicators actually blinked not just stayed solid amber and all the bulbs lit up.

I think the LED Sidelight bulb I fitted is actually brighter Than the 35/35w crap bulb, might go for a round headlamp with an H4 so I can actually see.

Tonight I shall finish up my soldering and cable tie the loom to the frame and generally out of the way and hopefully it's where it'll stay.

Well got home from work today and couldn't wait to get started on the bike

Sorted out the last few electrical problems and now have Neutral light full beam and winkers on the clocks

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/Squeaky_86_2007/imagejpg1-23.jpg

And that's right where the good stuff ends.

Was going through my box of bits which has a few spare parts in it and noticed this hideously greasy gritty rank rubber thing and thought I don't remember removing that.

Obviously the part in question is the chain runner that bolts between the swing arm and the frame, looked on the bike and like a twat I hadn't put it on as the donor bike didn't have 1.

Knew this wasn't going to be fun as it meant un bolting the whole rear end removing swing arm and putting it where it should be, and here's where it got worse. I unbolted everything Engine/swing arm mount bolt, shocks, bla bla bla bla, nothing was still attached but still wouldn't come off.

Gave it a wiggle and the right rear shock popped the plastic mudguard/cover off and F*cked that up and the swinger arm shat it's bush out by snapping half of the cast off. Can already tell as well as being expensive it's going to be a ball ache to remove the old knackered bushes.

Didn't take any pictures as I probably would have put my torque wrench through the screen of the iPad I was so F*cked off.

The part I'm most annoyed about is it's my own stupidity for not doing it in the first place but because when I change the back end I literally did it all in 1 go and it didn't have 1 on before.

Well making mistakes is what makes us human.... and besides... a bike build would be boring if everything went smoothly Confused Laughing

I know it's a pain and something you could have done without but it won't be too expensive for bushes will it?

There's a pair of New (old stock) Genuine suzuki ones on eBay for £40 so it's not the end of the world but £40 I would've put towards powder coated wheels.
