|
|
Went round a mates to adjust the chain on my bike (first time since replacing the chain although I should have done it sooner ), and the left side appears to be stuck. It's rusty, we've tried cleaning it out a bit, and even used some deep sockets rather than a spanner but that just started driving the nut through the plate thingy* Any ideas? My mate said we should try removing the rear wheel next time & see what's going on.
* technical term
Less important question:
What's a good stand for dirt bikes, those ones that lift the bike from the bottom? We were using a paddock stand & it seemed a little precarious (the bike slipped off @ one point). I was thinking of getting some axle stands but wasn't sure what's best. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

Take the wheel off and the adjusters out. Clean everything and look for anything obviously wrong with it, damaged threads or damaged swing arm for example.
Grease everything up and try again. Maybe take photos and post them up here.
I used one of these for my XR:

Think I paid about £30. ____________________ Previous Bikes: 2006 Honda XR125L > 2003 Yamaha DT125R > 1996 Honda CB500

Saw a mate earlier on & he showed me his plate thingy (I'm sure it has a proper name ) had snapped when adjusting the chain on his CBR 125. So thinking it could have been the plate that was just fatigued on mine, I swapped it with the one from the other side, and it worked.
Then I realised I had overtightened the chain, and now can't get it to slacken Any ideas? It's at about 10mm, when it should be 20-30. Is this likely to snap the chain, or wear out the sprockets?
Also got a lift stand & it doesn't fit under my bike, so I lifted my bike onto it, then stood on the handle with all my (meager) weight but it didn't raise the bike Looks like I spent £30 on a small table ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

Spindle bolt (is that the long one that goes through the rear wheel)? I loosened (actually removed) the axle nut, and the rear brake. Gave it a good kick too ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

So I slept on it, put my boots on rather than my trainers, gave it a good kicking & all appears to be well. Went for a quick test ride & it seems fine. Thanks for the advice.
One other random question, I was looking at how much a new metal thingy (fork end cap?) cost and they all seem to be about a tenner. On US sites they're a few dollars. WTF, £10 for a small bit of metal! ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)
