I have quite a bit of scrap aluminium and I wonder if it is worth smelting (or is it melting down?) so as to make into ingots and would this make it easier to sell to a scrap dealer?

If it is cost effective to make into ingots, does anyone know of anyone with the right equipment in the north west Kent area?

https://www.letsrecycle.com/prices/metals/non-ferrous-metal-prices/non-ferrous-metal-prices-2017/

Suggest £450 a tonne for turnings to £800 for clean cast, so I guess it depends on how much "quite a bit" is, and the cost of facilities and energy.

It's not going to be cost effective to make into ingots to sell to a scrap dealer

I'd get the same monies for ingots as I would profile and it'd be a right pain in the butt for me to smelt the crap down. It might make a difference if you've got mostly thin rolled stuff (like tin cans and roof panels) but you'd need a fair bit and a surplus of time on your hands.

Definitely worth weighing in though, I got 140 bucks on Friday, 90 earlier in the week and 170 two weeks ago. Mr. Green

After the initial cost of the furnace, it's not actually all that bad. Either way, I'd not bother personally, largely because I use all the scrap I can get myself anyway.

Now you can't validate what the scrap was.
Scrap dealer is under pressure to follow legislation and audit trails may say "no" and possibly inform the police.

Is it worth recycling, yes.

is it worth expending a huge amount of time, effort and energy completing a process that will occur later anyway, no.

You will need an electric arc furnace I think.

It doesn't melt well as it oxidises like fcuk as it melts.

Alumininmum is weird.

Alu price isn't too bad at present.
Took some to EMR the other week and was pleasantly surprised.
On the downside buying it, need it for work, is a bit steep Thumbs Down

It is when you're the council and your residents are under threat of fines and possible criminalisation if they don't
separate it from other waste. Effectively sorting it for you to conveniently weigh in without paying your own staff to do it.

You could voice your concerns and see if they'll up the council tax to sort it for you.

Is there any device similar to the one above that chops the top and bottom off instead of crushing it so it's easier to have flat can metal.

Or you could send an invoice for labour and storage in return with a nice letter asking them about where the tax money goes and why they need so many arms length companies.
