Well, last year, on this forum i made a resolution to save up to buy myself my dream bike.. a Triton, in January last year i broke that resolution, and decided to build one instead..
I haven't really posted on here throughout my build, as ive been far too busy with it, so the bike is now nearly complete, its taken me 1 year and 2 month from start to end, but heres a brief look back on the build.

Reason for building one being i got wind of one for sale at a decent price that had been stood in a garage since 1974, so i set off across the A66, fighting my way through the snow in places!

Most of you will know, if you get a good deal, you snap it up!

heres what i found.

A 1962 Slimline featherbed, the end spec will be put up later.

I had the frame acid dipped as i needed to repair a few lugs.

A few bits coming together now..

And a few parts sourced from a friend that imports brit stuff.

head blasted with new guides and seats.

Birthday present off my good lady!

Of course the winter got abit much and slowed progress down, so i moved the bike into my bedroom and built it there instead Razz

I have thousands of photos of this build, but i wont bore you all too much with it! ill get some images, and possibly some videos of it uploaded if it creates enough interest.

That is a brilliant project. A lot of work involved but it will be great to see how it progresses.

It will be a beautiful bike in the end.

Okay, bit of a step back then!

I decided i was going to start with the engine, partly because the road holder forks are so damn hard to find and so damn expensive!

Firstly the crank was split (3 piece crank) and re ground, bit of an expensive do to start off with, the six high tensile bolts were £50!

before
https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130129_183216_zpsfecba4be.jpg

after
https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130201_151126_zps8a226141.jpg

The crank cases needed some threads repairing, so i welded up all 3 primary mounting bolts, re-drilled and re-tapped to whitworth.

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130307_2001361_zps3968de1d.jpg

crank cases all assembled with new bearings ect, cam bushes reamed out, light weight alloy con-rods.

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130220_193512_zpsf91ccc53.jpg

Decided to throw away the standard mild steal siv that was a sump plate and make my own, partly because i could, and partly because i was reluctant to pay RGM about £45 for a square piece of alloy.
Bought myself a metric (i know!) magnetic sump plug from ebay, propper job!

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130326_185829_zpsc484ff10.jpg

Engine plates came from Dave Degans (triton builder)
https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130301_182019_zpsdea12bf8.jpg

Gearbox was the one thing that needed no work atall.. i removed the casings and found this.... was covered in a light oil, but everything was removed for inspection.

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130202_180400_zps2c57bed3.jpg

Crank cases all together, going to be running a fairly low compression to start with, then once everything is bedded in ill uprate them to around 9.5:1 possibly even a 750 morgo kit.

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130316_131455_zps4eb30510.jpg

Best stop for now and get some work done!

many thanks.

You sir, are a legend Mr. Green

And, judging by the age of the young lady in the picture, you are a lot younger than I would have expected for someone to want to restore a bike like this.

Either that, or you are Peter stringfellow...

Thanks, im 26, Samantha's 23. ive been into classic stuff most of my life as i served my time as a mechanic in a classic bike shop/museum, then worked for a Yamaha dealership.

I left the bike trade a few years ago and got a better paying job, so i decided to build it while i can, ill admit you dont really meet many people my age into this sort of thing, not sure why, maybe its because there not that stupid?!

Anyway, heres a picture of the Dunstal top and bottom yokes i got from the Philippines right before all that flooding happend! You wouldnt belive the price of some of the parts for this bike, ive got around £1000 in the forks alone Shocked

Decided to go for the wider yokes so i can get a modern (wider) secton tyre in.

Bit of an update,

After trawling around on the net and attending auto jumbles like Garstang and Stafford, i finally found a set of forks.. a friend of mine that imports bikes from the states brought a set of siezed Roadholder forks back, having seeing scabby sets go for around £500 on ebay, these were abit of a bargin at £100!

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130420_171201_zps27b6dcc8.jpg

Reading up on these forks, to no supprise, the damping is pretty poor, so i welded up the damper holes at the bottom of the cartridge and re-drilled them to a much smaller diameter oil gallery, slowing down the oil flow rate, increasing the damping characteristics.

A few months later i hit Stafford auto jumble, i love that place!
I managed to pick up some bargins for much cheaper than i could get them from other sources.
Of course building a Triton, i had to go for the exposed springs, i picked up a seat, and some other bits and pieces, including the modern external oil filter, a must when building anything of this nature!

Forks went in, had to make some minor adjustments to one of the bottom legs as the damper rod hole had become larger from years of abuse, so i made a little spacer up on the lathe to sort it, other than that it all went together okay!

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130520_194401_zpsab7d0f08.jpg

And of course it had to have Roadholder on it Smile

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130524_135102_zps871227f7.jpg

My oil tank finally arrived aswell, its hand made to suit my frame.

Played with a few designs to mount the oil tank, used some brackets off another bike i didnt use and some home made rubber bush's

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130428_214244_zps6c945497.jpg

A few more parts sourced

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130714_184702_zps59347b5a.jpg

Once all the forks were finished, i decided to use the Triumph twin leading shoe front brake, but mated to the original Norton full width hub.
Took abit of machining, removed the outer ring, then welded up a male brake stop to suit the forks, then polished up.

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/stesewell/triton%20650/20130714_190755_zps46daba32.jpg

Treated it to full stainless linkages and new shoes, took abit of shimming, as it turns out a Norton 8" hub, is larger than a Triumph 8" hub.... good old British!
