FFS... It looks as though someone at DVLA got their 5yr old to write your name on that letter. Rolling Eyes

Fackin' Idiots.

I just collected two BSAs 1956 and a 1961 (Both Pre-War depending on which war you wish to consider.). Both restored but they need fettled, polished and painted (to a Stinkers offending Gleeeem.) Razz

They will look the way they were 'meant' to look when they left the factory. Juz coz they poor brummies never had the teck nor materials to build the machines of their dreams don't make a shiny bike a bad bike...

And as to wear marks and patina.... If it was so important then why maintain anything? Why not just let it die of natural causes? Rolling Eyes

I found the head btw. It was hidden behind some of my other engines at work. No idea how it got there.

Got the other bits back anyway. Polished outer cases look shit hot. Will get some pics when I'm next at home.

Make sure that there is none of the powder from the blasting left in the cases, it can wreck an engine.
Nice job Very Happy

I was going to say that too.

Warm soapy water and lots of rinsing.

A bit like using a 'Penis Beaker'.

CHR15, when it comes to fitting the final component (oil) take care to use exactly what it says in the owners manual. I have known people that think a modern multigrade will be better than a straight grade mineral oil in an old bike and wreck an engine. Your bike was designed to run on oil without detergent.

Monograde 30, or 40 for the winter (for easier starting) and possibly 50 for summer.

They mainly need monograde due to the hard ball bearings in the crank.

Go here for as much guff on auld bike as any man can handle.

A loosely zipped up Anorak with the hood up will be required for all browsing.

Or a run through the dishwasher.

Finish "powerball" tablets bring engine parts up a treat. I always run bits through the dishwasher when I get them back from the machinist or if I've been lapping valves in.

On those polished bits the alkaline detergent may etch the surface.
Dishwashers digest aloominum.

You are just having your seats re-cut not new seats because of the lead free fuel? The lead free thing is a con just like the Y2K Bug was.

yeah. theres no seat recession as is; and this thing will probably only do a few hundred miles a year anyway. no point replacing good parts.
