If you give up on the DVLA then there is another option...

Hagon Frame - GRASSTRACK IT!

This may help.

https://www.bsaownersclub.co.uk/Registering_B.html

"There were however exemptions granted to ‘rare or historically significant’ vehicles to be added. Any other vehicles were allocated an ‘age related registration’ originally an ‘A’ suffix but this was changed to unallocated Scottish series SU, SV, SK and DS. However there were many vehicles which missed the cut off date for registering.

With the increase in restoring and using historic vehicles the pressure on the DVLA to retain the original registration where there was documentary proof increased especially from the enthusiasts' clubs. The DVLA then agreed that those vehicles which were not on the database could retain the original registration if the enthusiasts' clubs policed and certified the eligibility of the claim.
"

Not much rake on the front end, was it twitchy on corners?

It is actually fairly standard dimensions for that frame, which is very common in the pre-75 scene for these bikes.

You have to remember that most of the time the whole bike is drifting in one direction or another; either the front end washing out and scratching for grip going into the corners, or the rear end trying to overtake you coming out of the corners...

You tend not to notice much "twitching" because the whole bike is moving underneath you from the moment you drop the clutch to the moment you kill the engine after the race Laughing

Its just a case of holding on sometimes Laughing

There was/is a niche collection of auld bikes that were/are simple and free from restraints like 'performance'.
It was deemed perfect if it could be started and then moved under it's own steam.
Steering/Brakes and other 'fineries' were optional extras. Smile

lol, i never did get any pictures.

anyway, a bunch of really complicated things happened between then and now, but i'm back on this again.

todays saga has been trying to figure out how to get a v5.

if youve got a vehicle that has been off the road since the dvla started, as far as there concerned it doesnt exist.

to get its original number plate back you have to;

fill in a v55/5 (which you have to order and have posted to you)

fill in a v765

take pictures of both sides and sign / date the back of the pictures

take pencil rubbings of the frame and engine numbers

write a cheque for 25 quid

send all that to the bsa owners club

they send that to the dvla and maybe you get a v5 back.

and they wonder why people do illegal things.....

Sweet mother of Yaweh. I'm surprised they don't require a small sample of iron filings from a down tube so they can carbon date them.

Wotcha

I've just gone through this with the BSA D14 that I bought earlier.
Luckily I had a couple of old tax discs - 1971 and 1972.

It was a case of filling in the forms, sending the tax discs, along with a few photographs and a cheque to the dating officer ( I used the British Two Stroke Club ).

Wait a few days, then the tax discs come back - then a few weeks later the log book arrives . . . . . . with the original number retained.
