My next issue is that the rear section doesn't line up as well as i'd like, so i'm thinking of spotwelding it to get the lines perfect but still have some domed nuts to keep it looking like 2 parts. Any thoughts? I think the overall finish may look better this way.

I suspect you'll find it extremely difficult to fit/remove the rear wheel, if you make the mudguard a permanent fit.
Think of it logically; looking at the construction of the rest of the frame, why would they make the mudguard detachable, if it didn't need to be? |
Looking at the state of mine i was thinking to repair crash damage from people dropping them? Else you'd need a panel beater or new frame... I tend to agree with you I'm just hoping I can figure a way around it to get the line up perfect. So I'll need to mount the swing arm and rear shocks and do a dry run to be sure of that method, what other options would there by, i like the idea of things you can't see from the outside. That swing arm fits further to the right than in my mock up so I'll try tonight and add pics.
With regards to adding some colour I'm a bit stuck, I'm thinking of powdercoating all the bits you see in a dusty matte blue, I just need to raid some old suzuki paint charts to see if they did shade that's close, don't mind if it's not from the B-series bikes but would be fun to try match it up. Then all the add on bits will be black for stands, pegs, dark royal blue for shocks, seat base, some of the metal parts that need love. I'm not sure on the side panel colour yet, but old english white or the royal blue to match. Those are being done last thought and i have a spare oil tank so i may just get the blue one done with the other bits and spray the OEW myself from some tins to get an idea? Photoshop may come in handy too! |

So... after some manic work recently i've made progress. New petrol tank off ebay, blokes had it in the garage, boxed!!!! Top bloke and he has a few more so if you need a b120 tank let me know and i'll pm you his ebay user name.
In other news the frame got dropped off yesterday at my mates unit in Newbury, bit of a mission as the journey was a bit crazy but progress on that horrid rear section that you'll see below.
Helps when you have mates that skilled! So next is some colour and meanwhile the motor is getting a deep clean this weekend and then any worn bits swapped out. The idea being to have the frame painted, with the motor installed within a week or two, and then it may slow down as work commitments use my free time till christmas
Sorry for the slow progress but i promise the frame should be worth it

So.... this hasn't become another box or bits in a non bikers shed so don't worry. Picked the bike up this week after my mate had done some magic on it. Plenty of pics to follow. Good news, I love the colour, it's got the perfect period shade of blue i wanted, and should look good with quite a bold white on the side panels and probably some standard graphics also in white, might need them made as i believe they were all silver from the factory... add to list of things to check.
I've also had the head cleaned down and powdercoated, but now i'm not convinced i want the engine painted, or if it would look better with just a very deep clean and a polish. anyway i'm babbling, the NOS fuel tank is just beautiful and the pics don't do it justice, i can't wait to get building this in the new year. It's just a shame the dvla need me to present the vehicle and it looks like this....
Anyway happy hols to everyone and hopefully 2014 will see this putput smoking around the local roads again. pics very shortly. |

hi, sorry life went a bit mental. if you still have the manual let me know via pm and we'll arrange something
to everyone else. I promise this won't end up on ebay as "unfinished project". It should start going back together soon, and i hope to have it finished in time for some SUN this summer. |

Many options here.
You can either replace them with new bolts in a variety of finishes, black, stainless, chrome plate, zinc plate, zinc colour, anodised colour.
Or you can just send the bolts you have to a company that does plating and get them re done in zinc, people on here report the cost of this isnt huge and on most bikes it keeps the original factory look.
