Can the 5TA engine which has the distributor be converted into points inside the front of the crankcase like the Daytona. If yes how much is involved re parts etc. Thanks.

From my feeble memory, you need to change the timing cover and the exhaust camshaft.

Is it for an electronic ignition?

Had Boyer in mind and cosmetics of the bike, HT leads everywhere, looks like an old car.

Changing a Triumph camshaft is a lot of trouble to go to, for cosmetic reasons that will make the bike harder to sell.

If you do go that far, I’m getting good service from this Wassell/Vape electronic system, with a dual lead coil. https://www.feked.com/electronic-ignition-system-12v.html

Cheap (though Feked prices are ex-VAT) and looks more robust than Boyer components.

You could use the points in the dizzy housing to operate a twin lead ( jap type) coil mounted under the tank. So you wouldn't have all the leads going everywhere.
I can confirm that to mount the points in the side you will need a later type cam and timing cover , oil seal, points backplate , cover etc etc.

To remove the cam you will have to drop the head off remove the pushrod tube and wedge the can followers to stop them dropping into the crankcase. It's a lot of work to lose a couple of leads.

Discovered that the distributor was built by Kirby Rowbottom and the bike is fitted with a Mark 8 Pazon system, so I will keep the distributor.
