... Lovely little bike, Been sat in a shed for a year. Plan was to get it sorted, new fork seals, recover seat, clean up, do wiring, MOT then sell for a profit.

Unfortunately I fell into it holding a socket set, blacked out for about 3 hours and this is what had happened when I awoke.

Laughing Check my sig. It's not going to be standard. Most of the parts won't be rejoining the frame.

I join 'that' group of people that have a bike in their house, upstairs no less.

Quick question; how heavy is the engine lump? I need mine removing to weld an engine mount back on before it goes up for sale and I'd like to know if it's a 1-2 man + trolley jack job.

nah you can lift them on your own

i took mine out an refitted it on my own

if you take all the bolts out, the engine sits in the frame, you have to wiggle it out past the bar/ tube with the VIN plate on

I carried my CG motor to a mates in a hiking backpack. On the GS550 as I don't have a car licence. It's not a heavy engine. Smile

https://img834.imageshack.us/img834/2250/uc7n.jpg

Both wheels had a bit of corrosion and were covered in road cack and old chain oil, autosol and a couple of hours elbow grease had them looking spanks again.

https://img407.imageshack.us/img407/4227/w6wk.jpg

https://img541.imageshack.us/img541/3639/m23x.jpg

The top yoke is in good nick but filthy. Needs to be altered as there will be no need to have the bar clamps on there for the rebuild Wink

https://img40.imageshack.us/img40/5816/7eb8.jpg

I have some quite bad pitting on one of the forks, the other cleaned up quite well but I may get some new tubes ordered up or it's just going to keep blowing fork seals. Or I could get them hard chromed.

Nope, it's a W. Turkish built.

Progress today:

https://img30.imageshack.us/img30/8233/qwz8.jpg

Carb cleaned

https://img801.imageshack.us/img801/9959/kavd.jpg

My mate came up with an original all metal switchgear assembly off an old CG, really looks the part.

https://img585.imageshack.us/img585/9971/opx6.jpg

Covers off motor to check general condition.

https://img32.imageshack.us/img32/862/6wa9.jpg

top end in great nick, no sign of wear, valve clearances needed slight adjustment.

https://img580.imageshack.us/img580/9531/cvsx.jpg

Clutch side, cleaned out centrifugal oil filter. Thick with shite.

https://img32.imageshack.us/img32/4527/m0kr.jpg

New front end mocked up.

Aren't you about eight feet tall and 39 stone? Are you going to fit on it with drop bars?

Haha, 6ft and 13 stone. Not enormous. It's just a fun project to build, it'll have rearsets to stretch the rider out a bit.

Pretty much pads, just a build project more than anything though. Keep me entertained through the winter.

Hartford tank fits well and gives plenty of room for the seat. Lovely shape as well.

https://img819.imageshack.us/img819/6328/w1lc.jpg

Switchgear looks good on the bars.

Mocked up then stripped for prep and painting is plan.

Little mock up outside to check bar clearance and lay of the tank.

Couldn't be more perfect.

Next job is to obtain a seat now I can get measurements for the seat length, then clean up, grind and strip the frame. Elbow grease time!

Watching this. Thumbs Up

In my opinion, anything you do to a CG will be an improvement.

Depending on the marmite standpoint on cgs, you may enjoy this next update, or cringe.

Choppy choppy.

Frame now sits at 18" length from tank tail to frame rail end. This gives room for a 21"-25" seat with a hoop made to match. The swingarm has been smoothed, with the excess chain cover mounts, pillion pegs and anything else shaved off. Around 3kgs of junk metal has come off the frame so far, with more to come.

Still have to do some work with a file and dremel to remove weld marks before prepping through.

I'm liking it so far! Loving the tank. Definitely going to keep watching.

Can I ask, what do you intend on doing with any parts that come off her that aren't going back on?
