Cheers, got a lot going on right now with just buying a RXS100, new tyres on the GS550 and the bandit needing the wastegate welding back on to the exhaust flange plate. Seeing this on a wheel under it's own suspension again has given me second wind.

Going to make an effort to pick up the forks today so I can lob this back together and get an idea of stance/measure for the seat unit once the tank is positioned.

I'm enjoying reading so far how you've modified your cg, but I just don't understand why you've removed the towing eye from it. Surely it would be nice to keep some practicality on it? It doesn't exactly stand out too much since it is the same colour. Good work though Smile.

It rolls both forwards and backwards when you push it. Smile

With the forks pushed about an inch and a half through the yolks it sits real perdy. I may shorten them if I can, or just leave it looking 'factory' if you will.

I'm not going to be doing much towing with it. Laughing It's not even going to have a stand. Wink Weight must be removed as much as possible. I'm doing this for fun and to keep me from wanking too much during the winter months, not because I envisage doing 12,000 miles on it a year.

Also, started brushing the stripped cases. Want a mattish 'scrubbed' look.

Dodgy pic, but in real life they look just about right. Going to inlay the Honda black. It always erks me when people polish a case and leave the logo bare.

Buuuuump.

Motor looked like this:

Now looks like this:

https://img42.imageshack.us/img42/1041/851x.jpg

https://img89.imageshack.us/img89/9087/1zsz.jpg

I have also cleaned up a resprayed the motor mounts, but they require another coat before they're finished.

Uni speedo mounted with some SV650 fairing brackets through the spare holes in the yolk:

https://img22.imageshack.us/img22/7133/0uf6.jpg

https://img811.imageshack.us/img811/2602/g99w.jpg

Hmmm...

https://img841.imageshack.us/img841/8282/22cy.jpg

Also made some templates for the steel plates that will mount the seat and electronics. I have made contact with an Island based engineer who is known to produce cafe racer bits, about a seat hoop and some rearset plates to mount off the end of the swingarm. Moving along a bit more swiftly now.

Three times as good.

Back end is in properly now, popped the motor in for a look and painted the writing on the cases in for an extra touch.

https://img836.imageshack.us/img836/9113/3mgq.jpg

https://img838.imageshack.us/img838/9407/cbuy.jpg

New stainless fastenings, castellated nuts and chain adjusters. I think it looks pretty sweet for a CG.

I'm aware the front wheel is in backwards and upside down haha. I have a 3.50 metzeler classic rear tyre to go in, should beef it up at the back. I'm pretty limited at the front without a wider set of forks.

I think the skinny tyres actually suit that build; in fact, were it me, I might try accentuating it, using 2.75 section's front and back.
It's aping ancient tiddler racers of the cafe era.
I wonder in fact whether a sigle layer GRP race fairing from something like an early TZ 125 or MT125, would complete the theme.

Another ponder, looking at them pics... you've lopped frame rails just behind shock mount gussets and lined the seat unit up almost directly over the back wheel axle...

Common way about it on bobbed tiddlers, it seems, but then number plate gets added as an after-thought and often doesn't fit with the rest of the aesthetic.

If you look at those two old tiddler racer's though, the tail is behind rear wheel spindle, and almost extends to the vertical at back of rear wheel...

Two reasons for this, first is that the shocks on those bikes are more upright, so top mounts are further back to start with;

Second is FIM/ACU race regs that actually stipulate how far bodywork must/must not extend around wheels.

https://img842.imageshack.us/img842/570/eri0.jpg

Before you get the seat loop fabbed up... try sliding that seat back on the frame rails by, maybe 2-3", so that it over hangs the back wheel a bit more....

It would give you clearance to hang the No-Plate under it, a bit more tidily; might also give you a little more bum-room so you aren't so scrunched up front.

Aye, the length of the bike is a concern. The tank is a good 3 inches shorter than the cg tank, and the seat unit is almost ten inches shorter than the standard seat/fairing. I may move the seat unit back a few inches, but I'm not keen on having too much of a gap between the two. The plan is to have a plate on a frame mounted on the spindle and a slimline light mounted between the rear loop and seat unit.

This build is progressing, ever so slowly amongst other things, but it is progressing. Sheet steel and hoop now welded in the back, next step is to work the steel to mount the seat, tank and electrics and then shotblasting and painting of the frame, then a final build. I plan to lift the seat and tank just enough to run the wiring beneath so it is completely hidden.

Nice! I'm doing much the same with a (Turkish) CG frame & CB125s lump. The Turkish CG is the best CG for customising as it has a longer swinging arm than the Brazil built bikes & chunky looking Union Cycle wheels. I want it looking similar to this but with fatter tyres: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l--DcUAvy8M&list=PLmsihBYhMChmLT_HklZut7ZMWcgVDyfCe
I have kept my 'towing eye', 'cos it's a good anchor point for a padlock & chain. The CB125s OHC engine has a few HP over the CG's pushrod unit which is useful as I wanna use a CB175 front end & fender which is beefier than the weedy CG/CB 125 tubes & therefore heavier.. Where did you get the seat unit?

EBay! It's a Vincent style seat from somewhere, can't remember the name but posted with an upholstered seat pad was 85 quid. I live on the Isle of Wight, nothing gets stolen down here, apart from dignity. I mounted the seat tonight, pics to come.
