Meh, don't give them an excuse.

What's the fine for not showing a plate at all?

Yes, the fines increased, remember all of the stuff about them busting middle lane hoggers etc.? Yeah, that was a cover for the fact the fines were actually increasing. £60 fines are now £100. £30 are now £50. Thumbs Up

Wonder if N30 has seen this yet? He doesn't have a plate, he has a sticker on the inside of the rear wheel arch.

I have a legal 20x14cm (~8x6) plate, although I could go for a 27x8 (~9.5x3.summat).

Mopeds are even luckier and get a 13x9/9x13

https://www.plaque24.lu/particulier.php

I'm not exactly sure why the UK gets so worked up about these things. My Ducati has the exhausts so close together that a full size UK plate doesn't actually fit.

The, LOLworthy, reason the police give is "so you can be identified in case of an accident"!
The real reason is so the scameras get a readable picture so you can be fined, etc! Rolling Eyes

The amount of fine hasn't increased, and you haven't been fined yet.

You've received an offer to pay a fixed penalty instead of being prosecuted, that's all.

If you think you haven't done anything wrong, don't pay it. If you think the copper who stopped you won't show up, or that the CPS will drop the ball, don't pay it.

Yes it's up to £100, that rise was well overdue.

I thought the standard police line was that small plates are only used by criminals? Confused

Not on mine! the factory/dealer fit remus/ducati performance cans are so close together I actually had to get someone to pull the exhausts apart then jam the full size plate between them and then drive carefully to the MOT centre so they didn't get too hot and melt the plate.

Can I just point out (again!) that there is no actual law relating to the size of your plate in this country?

The legislation refers to the size and spacing of the letters.

If the officer who pulled you didn't measure your lettering at the time they have no case and you could appeal.

These are the dimensions for bikes:

Character height 64mm
n Character width (except the figure 1 or letter I) 44mm
n Character stroke 10 mm
n Space between characters 10mm
n Space between groups 30mm
n Top, bottom and side margins (minimum) 11mm
n Vertical space between groups 13mm

That does imply though that your minimum plate size (without Is or 1s) is 228x163mm (8.97'x6.41')

Odd, because when I got "fined" for this I was given a £30 fine, when it turns out it should have been a £60, check to see what your fine is, if it is the wrong fine amount then in the words of the letter and conversation I have had
"The fine is legally unenforceable"

I got my £30 back and the ticket ripped up Thumbs Up

Correct.

A) It was time barred
B) It was the wrong amount (at the time of the offence it was £60)
C) It was already dealt with by way of VRN.
D) Not one fuck was given tat day.
