Ahhh but the 2 PSU's must have common ground to work together.

If they had a common ground wouldn't that ground circuit just become a short, I thought that's why I would have to only have the ground from the mains going to the primary power supply, which would then be taken to the other power supply making the case (or whatever they use for internal gounding) the mains ground for the second. So I would have to keep them well apart.

Just done a bit of Googling, and yes it appears that I will have to leave the mains earth on the second PSU unattached to avoid a short.

This means that I will also have to isolate the cases. Some seem to recommend having a small neon light connected to the 2 cases to warn you if the cases become live.

Voltage is also known as potential difference (P.D.) and it is the difference in voltage from your +ve cable and GND that is your P.D.

If you have 2 positive cables (which you have connected in parallel) then the 2 ground cables from the 2 supplies must be connected. It is only a short if the +ve and GND are connected together with no load or 0 impedance.

By connecting the 2 GNDs you will also prevent any P.D. from building up between the 2 casings as they will be electrically connected (probably, I'll mention that in a second) and 0v to one another.

Now there may be a case where the GND cable is not earthed and is what's known as an isolated supply, this is unlikely.. get a multimeter and measure the resistance from -ve/GND to the earth plug prong. If the GND is relative to earth the resistance should be <1 Ohm.

So you're doing 12v from each PSU then?

OK, some updates.

Got the second battery finished:

https://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/Biles/EBike/IMG_0405_zps266478fa.jpg

All the balance leads seem to be working correctly:

https://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/Biles/EBike/IMG_0406_zps21c50665.jpg

An isolator for the battery turned up:

https://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/Biles/EBike/IMG_0404_zpse9a204cc.jpg

And yesterday this arrived. Very Happy

https://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/Biles/EBike/IMG_0403_zps90aed412.jpg

However the Chinese mm seems to be about twice ours. Laughing

The hub is much wider than I was expecting. I wont be able to run a cassette at the back and will have to have a single speed freewheel.

I will try and get a good range up front and see if a single speed chain tensioner can handle the chain movement.

Other than the size problem, the wheel looks very good quality. It is well laced with thick gauge spokes and a good solid looking rim.

It weighs in at just under 9kg.

rear wheel weighs 9kg bike weight 12kg + battery weight-- single cell = 4kg + rider guess 76kg

101kg not including any extras.

if it moves at a speed worthy of using ill eat my hat.

I can pedal a bike up to 30mph and I can only put out about 500w.

I'm adding about 20kg but an extra 1500w minimum.

Just finished the battery series connection loom. It's putting out a nice 50V at the connector. Smile

As long as I get over 1C discharge out of them they should be fine.

Lorry starters run on 24 volts, good enough to crank a 16 litre diesel.

OK started sorting out the PSU wiring.

https://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/Biles/EBike/IMG_0411_zps9cf896bf.jpg

Took a fair amount of faffing to figure out what combination of wires I needed to connect to make it turn on.
Including making this monstrosity. Laughing

https://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/Biles/EBike/IMG_0418_zps51ee2f10.jpg

I didn't have any power resistors so made this 30 ohm 24W thing, worked pretty well, but turned out not to be needed. These power supplies didn't need a load on on eof the rails to start, they needed to following:

The thin orange wire (sense) connected to the orange 3.3V rail.

https://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/Biles/EBike/IMG_0412_zps60b33bd9.jpg

Connect the Brown ("Power Good") wire to Ground:

https://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/Biles/EBike/IMG_0414_zpse57ede6a.jpg

And a switch for the Green (Soft Power) to Ground.

https://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/Biles/EBike/IMG_0413_zps95d3419b.jpg

The I just grouped all the 12V wires and the remaining Ground wires.

https://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/Biles/EBike/IMG_0415_zps90d1c8a1.jpg

Seems to be working fine.

I also changed all of my connectors over to Anderson Powerpoles. I really like them, they can be configured however you want with the little tabs on the side and they are neither male or female, I suppose you could call them asexual connectors? Laughing Makes them really easy to use, will definitely be using them in the future.

https://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/Biles/EBike/IMG_0417_zps69257f9e.jpg

https://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m637/Biles/EBike/IMG_0416_zpsf82748a7.jpg

I also had to strip down both the batteries because they each had a dead cell. When a Li Ion cell dies it basically turns into a resistor, which all the other cells in parallel with it discharge though. This is usually why you see things like rechargeable drills and laptop batteries suddenly die, it is likely that all but 1 of the cells are fine, but they are just discharging through that 1 dead cell.

I'm not really sure of the best way to find them, I couldn't find any obvious differences using a multimeter, so in the end I stripped the batteries and charged all the suspect sells individually, I then put them on top of a fan to make them nice and cool, then left them on the table for half an hour.

I could then tell which ones were dead because they became warm (discharging itself through the internal short) whilst the others stayed cold.

Dont worry, it's imminent. Should hopefully have it's maiden voyage tomorrow, as long as i can get the motor on the bike OK.

I will record it and leave a note for my Brother, so that when I explode he knows to upload the video and show BCF.

Didn't get to test it today unfortunately.

The throttle they sent me has a smashed chip, so no way of fixing it or running the motor. Crying or Very sad

A new one is in the post but wont be here till Thursday.

Unfortunately I probably wont make much progress for the next few weeks as I'm away for work.

Should have used an Agni motor, like they do for the TT Zero

...Although they seemed to have some problems.

Lynch motors run off like 200A and they have something like 15HP for the small ones. Laughing

Also they cost about £1500.
