Well project number 3 has arrived.

Its an apriilia af1 (i think lol) but as you can see its in boxes.
Was told its all there but how many times have we heard that one eh lol. I will slowly get it built back up as time goes on, but i also have a new garage to build (i've just got planning passed) as well as a few other jobs getting it the way.

This was how i got it in the car, The fun will be in the build, a wonder how many bits are missing Laughing

Hi

Looks like you have a job there.

That is a 1988 model AF1 Sintesi. But the front wheel looks like it is from a Futura while the forks (and top yoke at least) look like they are from an RS125.

Check that it has the coil and that the magnets on the flywheel are in good condition (they are both expensive to replace).

If you need any photos of stuff I can try and sort them out from mine so you know where bits go.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Probably work fine. Standard forks are 38mm ones and I think the RS ones are 40mm forks. The older ones chrome is crap, but the RS chrome isn't so bad (but getting USD forks stripped, rechromed and rebuilt is over £300 from Philpotts). If you want to restore it to standard I would sort the original forks out.

Original forks were less smooth at the bottom (few cast in ribs) and had a tatty sticker saying "Upside Down" on them. Top yoke had no 'Aprilia' cast into it and had bars with a casting that bolts on around the top of the forks.

All the best

Keith

Just been for a look and this is what i have spare, although i did not find and bars of any sort, found these clamps that i guess are something to do with that lol.

Also it apears i have yokes with 2 different forks in but i do have the matching one to it but it needs the internals rebuilding as it looks like some one striped it and left it Sad

Hi

Yes, those are the original forks. The red top yoke is the original one, with the 2 black castings being the mounts for the bars. The other top yoke is the type fitted to the later AF1 Sintesi, the Futura and some RS125s.

The early forks were used on the Sintesi and the early AF1 Futuras when they changed the forks (and front mudguard) for the later Futuras. The RS125 used these late AF1 forks.

All the best

Hi

The ones with the black lowers are probably the original ones. Suspect the one with the silver bottom is probably from a Futura. Not sure if the spring rates are the same.

All the best

Its a secma Qpod, its been tuned a little and will do 50 mph with 2 people in. I plan on modifying the wheel base and putting a 250 in it some time this year lol Laughing

Yes that's my daily drive and it goes quite well.
Its a 1989 model that had larger carbs and different cams to give it more power and to be fair it can certainly hold its own with some of the new stuff today Smile

I know it's partly nostalgia but I still have feelings for the F-Ks and F-Ls. Wub It's probably not that suitable for the kind of riding I plan to be doing, but has always seemed to me to be a great do-it-all bike. Fancy selling it? Wink

Sorry mate but i don't have any plans on selling it, not just yet anyway Wink

If you need parts, I found some good stuff on German & Italian ebay. You can also try here - https://www.centroricambi.de/index.html you'll have to translate the site or use google chrome. He only answers emails if you translate to German Smile

So i've been through the parts tonight to try and see whats here or not.

The sub frames and engine support dont look to bad, just need a clean and a paint.
The plastics and seats look ok and should come up well with a clean.
Wiring looms there, dont know if its the right one but will soon find out.
Clocks need a glass putting in the speedo bit but the rest are ok, just hope they still work.

I have found 2 carbs, not sure what one if any is the right one, one has the slider in, the other has no float bowl or slider Sad

A few pics of the parts i have so far.

Pretty sure the carb on the right of the photo will be the one you want, 28mm.

Hi

The carb without the top looks like a VHSB (from an AF1 Sport / Futura / RS125), while the other looks like the original PHBH carb.

As to the wiring loom, looks like it isn't the right one. The unit with 7800 written on it is the power valve control unit (the number refers to the rpm it operates at), while yours is an early Sintesi with the pneumatic power valve. That loom might be for a later AF1 Sintesi (like the one Phil_B is rebuilding), or maybe for an early AF1 Futura. Count the number of headlight connectors (Sintesi had twin lights, non UK Futuras had a single light, and while UK Futuras had twin lights they also had different switchgear than you have there).

If I can help out then let me know. I have 2 Sintesis, one early one and one later one (which is very tatty, although not anything like as bad as Phil_Bs one).

All the best

Keith

Right i've just had a better look in the bag of wires and it turns out i have 2 wiring looms although one looks rough and not complete.

Keith, the power valve control unit that you have just kindly told me what it was lol Thumbs Up does not plug in either wiring loom so i guess that was a part he has had with the bike as he bought it with spares originally, i can see its going to be fun this build Laughing

I've also not found as yet a cdi or coil? Do these models have a cdi and coil or is it one of them all in one jobs?

Hi

The coil should be a blue box which also contains much of the electronic ignition. There is no separate cdi unit.

You should also have an alloy block with fins on it which is the regulator / rectifier.

There are a few differences between the early and late Sintesis. Clocks changed and lost the fuel gauge. Tank changed to one with a flush petrol cap (and no sender for the fuel gauge). Power valve changed from a pneumatic one to an electronic one.

All the best

Keith

Thanks Keith, you know your stuff on these bikes.
I don't have a rectifier, not that i've found yet any way or a coil so looks like i will need them parts but i'm a few bits away from needing them at the minute lol, i think one big headache is also going to be finding out if the loom i have will work with this bike Crying or Very sad

Hi

Regulator / rectifier should be easy to source. Nothing special about them.

The coil is more of a problem. Not that easy to find and often quite pricey. Ebay coil ad here so you know what you are looking for.

Also just spotted this Ebay ad for SEM stator repairs. They mention coil repairs (if you are really stuck I probably have a spare but very knackered coil).

All the best

Keith

I know i'm a bit away from needing one at the minute but its nice to know i have all the parts before i need them Smile
