Those bars looks about 30 degrees too radical to work on the RXS. Will be a challenge to get the throttle cable straight enough to work properly from there, I would say.

This works for me:

Cheers for that pic 27cows, good to know as a reference! Yes that's not the final angle of them, need to get the throttle cable seated and routed properly so it's not revving it's nuts off Laughing and probably try angling bars a little more forwards like yours. Look like the same bars so should be fine!

Thumbs Up

So this evening was productive.. I got the bars angled a bit further forwards and investigated why the bike was revving to 12k now I've installed new bars.. turned out the throttle slide nut and screw device had worked itself way up at the top of the carb. Refitted it to where it was and it kicked to life as it should...

But not just that - where it was having trouble idling (had to be set at 3k) and not sounding right like some kind of air leak, it is now okay!!!! Mr. Green So I guess that must have needed adjusting in the first place as it sounds SO much better now and runs nicely.

So I can now se the idle to approx 1.5k (I know it should be 1.3k but I like it a touch higher)

Here's a little video of the idling at correct revs

And here's another short video riding it around the carpark again to test it. Dad turned up halfway through to have a go on it Laughing He likes it, bless him.

So it looks like I will be heading up to Carvel's all being well on Sunday to get a lesson in fork seal replacement, and we shall change sprockets and chain too! Thumbs Up

R U SRS? I can flat foot it easier than I can my pedal bike Laughing

New bar positioning is so low too, almost like clipons. Feels much more like a bike should I think Razz

Cheeers Thumbs Up

It's certainly a fun little bike, and it's great that it's working even when it's not working properly if that makes sense. I used it for 2 days with a dodgy idle (would die at lights if not revved) and really down on power.

Still a bit of work to do but getting there, I'm just glad I got the MOT done with no advisories. I'd wiped the leaking fork seal outside the test centre Laughing

No ride to Carvel's today for fork seals, chain and sprockets as was a little bit torrential with rain this morning and I had some other things to attend to at home.

Still, got the RXS out for a little ride this afternoon, along with a little bit of forest tracking! New bars are pretty fun Cool

So I haven't had too much time on this recently, but just sorted a blocked idle jet in the carb and seems to be running better now.. will be riding to the Ace Cafe shortly with a friend to meet Carvel, will see how it goes on the way there and back Thumbs Up

My fork seal on left fork is leaking, but both forks seem to be a bit bent. I sourced some used but good condition off ebay which seem to have a good seal and straight, will just be changing the oil out of those shortly to replace current forks.

Still looking good! Mr. Green

As promised, made it to the Ace Cafe in the sunshine for a mooch about the bikes and some food!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/t1.0-9/10406542_10152450017324513_6220764307239528355_n.jpg

Carvel on his CBR joined me and my friend Mike on the YBR, and the RXS was flawless the whole way there and back. Glad it started on the first kick for the ride home as two guys were watching over me to see if it actually worked Laughing

Thumbs Up

Next task is to replace fork oil in other forks and get the straight forks on!

Handlebar change (again!) Decided to stick a set of ye olde faithful Renthal Lows. Very glad I did, feels great to ride with them!

The best part about buying Renthals are the stickers they give you Thumbs Up

Still need to sort out some bar end mirrors, the ones I have seem to be too big to fit into the rental's inside diameter (20mm). Will work it out.

Bike is running nicely currently too Thumbs Up

I will be picking up my other forks in next few days that are straight and have fresh oil in, which I'll need to sand down and respray and then I can get fitted to the bike!

After that, just the loose foot peg (bracket needs a bit of welding!) to attend to and then I think all will be dandy Mr. Green

Thanks! Yes, much more comfortable. Took the bike to work yesterday and was great through Central London traffic, the Renthals make it easy to flick about through buses and cabs, and feels like a classic bike now. Funnily enough it pretty much takes the same amount of time to get to work on it as it does on my CBR Laughing

Very glad I did it! I rate Renthals very highly, I put a set of black Renthal Ultra Lows on my Hornet - but these are Lows and I think perfect for the bike size. Slightly wider than standard but MUCH lighter, and lower. The controls were a cinch to fit on too.

Still got bar ends / bar end mirrors to go on so watch this space Wink

You have a great stable there dude!
A classic 2smoker, a nice big bike and a lovely classic car in the garage too!

What I'm most jealous of is the amount of space around your mini for working on it! With some shelves, a workbench and a Rover 220, I can't even get into my garage, let alone jack up and work on my ride!

Twisted Evil Gotta love it.

So today, after breakfast at Ace (took CBR this time), I got onto sanding down my spare forks to go on the RXS.

Before & After!

https://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/doovydoo/2014-06/4E0B23F6-628E-4750-8061-E4F955E6CDC7_zpsxqbkdtnm.jpg

Result! Thumbs Up I thought I may have to spray them silver as there was a fair bit of surface corrosion, but sanding down appears to have done the trick. I haven't even properly started to polish yet, this is just after a sandpaper rub-down, and then a couple of wet 'n' dry rub-downs in an hour and a half. Hands are now black Rolling Eyes

I will get onto with a bit of wire wool and autosol soon to finish them off, but they're pretty much ready to go on I think!

New forks fitted tonight! Thumbs Up

Absolutely no trouble getting the new ones on, it now rides nice and straight and does not leak any fork oil Mr. Green

My friend Mike came to give me a hand with it, we had done pretty much the same operation to his front end of his YBR when he crashed it so we knew what we were doing Laughing

I've got to say I'd have been tempted while he was looking the other way to pull out your mates YBR forks and see if they'd go into the RXS yokes, if they are the same diameter.

The YBR's disc front end would be quite handy I would think on a nippy 12bhp bike like the RXS. I used to have a CG125, and found the drum brake was sufficient for 11bhp on that bike, when it was adjusted correctly and had new shoes, but for any more power even on a lightweight bike, I'd have wanted a disc if possible.

You know what, it's actually a documented process on some RXS forums and is a common swap actually. They do fit, obviously needing the other front end components too - but the disc brake would definitely help stopping power. I might get round to it one day... Wink
