On December 16th 2013 I purchased my first big bike for £460, all I had to my name at that time. Quite a good price compared to other gsx bikes available. At £1000 and above. Bike ran, but rough at low rpm as the seller said in the advert on that popular site that we all know and use. He or the previous owner had pod filters installed and I wanted to install the original airbox. Did not want to put up with the problems associated them.

The bike finally spoke to me in February after 2 months of hibernation. The exhaust sound is amazing.
https://youtu.be/eyNeutjiRPY

Hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this link.

The airbox is from a gs1000 because I couldn't find one from a gsx and the inside diameter of the boots is 48 and the mouth of the carb is 53. Did manage to get them on when the bike ran for the first time but had vacuum leaks. At the moment I'm looking to get the correct rubbers that would fit. Got my full license in March and can't wait to go for a ride.

I knew I wanted to change the suspension since the start and bought a complete front end from a CBR 954 fireblade for £280 (good buy?) will get it on Monday.

Been working on it he bike 1 day a week since I bought it, because of modern slavery..uh...uh...I meant to say work. Will keep you posted, might have some questions as a novice:) happy to receive any and all comments....I'm just a happy man to have my dreams coming true finally after one day in June 2008 or 9 when I rode a gsxr k5 600 and fell in love with the feeling that only bikers know.

PS.

My first bike gillera mx1 1988 125 2 stroke ( not actually my bike but same colour just some1 else's Very Happy )

Quick photo shop edit to foresee the future lol. Will change the rear end at some point with one from an inazuma gsx ( I want a 180 rear type for looks for handling ) and might also get a petrol tank from a gsx1100 like the one in the picture.

cool cool, looks like its coming along,
hope you know a good welder, speaking from experince of building fighters, and cafe racers, etc, a good one is worth their weight in gold,
hopefully the front end conversion goes smoothly,
my current conversion is requiring a cut and weld on the stem to fit the shorter head stock,

try where possible to do mods that have been done before, and don't get sucked in to the "someone said it can't be done, fuck them i'll do it to spite them" mentality, i stupidly put a speed triple swing arm on a zxr because of that, where there were better options available,
i see that you did your research, as much as you could, for the front end.

lol, analog and mechanical.... same thing,
any way, push bike speedo, or spend a bit of money and buy a
acewell, a koso, or any other number of digital speedo/tachos

they use a magnet reed type switch for the speedo pick up,

you could, there is no actual requirement to have a physical speedo,
but i would get one that has warning lights so you know when you are in neutral, high beam, and most importantly oil pressure,
the acewell ones have a nice classic look,

Nice project for a big café racer!
Good to see someone who isn't scared of the flack for ripping apart a well regarded big air cooled Suzuki and doing what the hell they want with it!

Did these GSX motors still have roller bearing cranks like the big Ol Kawasaki's, or had they gone onto one piece cranks by then?

I love the GSX when u stand behind it it looks like a beast muscle bike I love it...can't wait to ride it for the first time. I don't know about the cranks. This is my 1st project and I am learning and innovating as I go along. Love it

Acewell are abit too expensive. Plus I might end up using a round tacho and pushbike speedo. I'll make up a plate or something to put light for indicators exetera ... And use my mobile as speedo during night time.

The GSX 1100 is one of my faves, especially with the coffin tank.
A guy, up the road from me, when I was on L's, early 80's, had one just like this:-

https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gallery%20%20A/Suzuki%20GSX%201100E%2080%20%202.jpg

Wanted that bike, bought an LC instead! Mr. Green

Got the front end yesterday...seems quite small, did not expect that (I'll measure the difference next week when me and my m8 have a go) very light. Had to push it home from Liverpool street to croydon...journey on the public transport was fun... Comments like "where's the rest of it" I would reply... "Left the rest at home, petrol prices"

https://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa161/nino__/Mobile%20Uploads/E4E7DB55-7EDE-4EF2-8B66-57B97E33CBC3_zpswnlqgpkb.jpg

Wish me luck...will keep you posted.

Ps a pair of airbox rubbers are advertised on eBay, says there that they will fix all gsx 750 and katana...I sent a msg 3 times, asked the seller if he could measure the inside diameter, but to no avail. Should I just buy them at £23 and hope they will fit......the only part I need to get the bike with no vacuum leaks and synch the carbs and go ride... Sad

buy them and if they don't fit then you always can say they were not as advertised and get your money back,

good to see you are going to use the air box, its tempting to go for pods, but they never run right, and end up causing more hassle than its worth,

good luck on the front end, i'll hopefully get my usd install done over the next couple of days as well, i went the other way and went for dirt bike forks because i wanted the wire wheel Very Happy

Thank you very much for the interest.

The bike would start, but the engine would never rev above 4.5k rpm. One of the legs that hold the float was broken by the previous owner and it took ages to get all floats at the same lvl. I had a mechanic do it after failing to do it myself. Failed in finding another carb bidy on the net. Now the motorbike backfires and spits petrol out the carbs. The mechanic mate said it might be that, the timing chain has jumped a tooth on the sprocket and soon this I hope will be fixed.

I haven't lost hope...I will have this bike and be proud I'm riding my dream.

There's a problem with the honda cbr 954 front end tho...there is a 5inch difference in the ground clearance...so I might sell the front end and get one from a gsxr 750 1991-1995 model...or get step down trip trees made...I might have to change the exhaust in both situations, because it has 2 collectors on top of each other instead of a flat collector.

I'll keep u posted with how it goes with the engine
