Hello,

First forum i have ever used that uses this karma thing, it takes a bit of getting used to. I wonder would it be possible to add a feature that shows you what the karma system doesn't like instead of the little messages telling you to check stuff.

Its annoying for me because i have dylexica (is that right?). I am lucky that it ain't bad, only my handwriting and the fact i can't see when spelling, punctuation and similar are wrong. Unless it is very obvious.

Just an idea

it takes me a while to type these messages and correct them to make sence, its a good job i spend to much time on the internet mean i am quite a fast typer or id be here for about 10 mins for each reply Embarassed

Im only posting this because i would like good karma.

There i agreed with it to get your karma up a tad.

I say this from the excellent karma position, but seriously try not to worry about it too much.

I do think however that the karma system needs a bit of revising.

I believe one of the reasons korn doesn't say is so that people make an effort in writing legible posts anyway, rather than just writing posts that will get the good karma.

So, spellcheck Thumbs Up. If you really have probs you could copy it into word or similar if you have it.

Cheers for the ratings:P i will just have to use the site more. I will get used to it eventually. I like the idea of the system, if it was more common it would make reading posts a lot easier sometimes.

In defence of the Karma system, I believe it is there moreso to stop the usage of the tacky "Txt Spk" that comes from people. It makes reading time consuming and it makes forums look messy.

I don't mind genuine spelling mistakes, whether it is a typo or somebody has dyslexia for example. I am also sure the Karma system doesn't mind much either. Hey it's only Karma and as long as people like you and your posts have good meaning then surely you have nothing to worry about.

If you really are concerned there is a spell checker for when you have finished typing and you can always preview your post, to notice the spelling mistakes you might of made that you hadn't noticed. Smile

I fully understand the reasons for the karma system, they are good as well. the point i was making was that it could highlight the bits that need correcting.
I am getting better now so not bothering me to much.

I still think it's a bit of a mystery on how it works.

For example I can't seem to get my karma above four green spots, however it does an excellent job of keeping forum invaders & other disruptive parties at bay. So it's all good from my perspective

It is more than possible to get it above four green blobs, there is no actual benefit if you make it into the gold karma so don't worry about it really. As long as it stay vaguely positive the karma system will not plague you with reminders about your spelling and the like or if you let it get too low it will ban you.

There is a good guide to the karma system written by Korn who made it, and that guide can be found here it does give you a good idea of what it is wanting and not wanting. Basically write posts with correct spelling and grammar, in the correct forums (as if it get moved forum by a moderator it affects your karma), don't do anything which can provoke someone giving your post a negative rating, write posts which people will want to give positive rating to. And don't abuse the post rating system, as if you use it wrongly then your rating gets revoked by a moderator and it affects your karma! So it's not worth even trying it really.

Use the spell checker, and the preview if you want to, just check that your post is easy to read and follow and that it is actually relevant to the topic in that thread. The karma system also likes it when you rate other peoples posts, but Korn is not going to let us know about how that works, other than that it likes us to rate peoples post. That does not mean go and rate every post you can find as it will increase your karma, just use the ratings where you think that they are appropriate.

Hope this is helpful. Thumbs Up

Rate it how you see fit. Just also worth mentioning now, it is also a bad plan to have a vendetta against someone and to try and get the karma system to ban them. If you go and view someone profile it shows you the last thirty days post ratings that they have done so if all of them were against the same person it is fairly clear. Then a moderator will revoke all those ratings and your karma would suffer.

So use the post ratings as and when you see fit, and use general common sense otherwise the karma system will make you suffer for it! Laughing Laughing
