That'd be why on trackdays they let riders go in twos with space between them Smile.

Will risk it regardless, but does anyone know of any good one-day track insurance. MCE did offer it 'free' with a FC road policy - but it turns out thats with an excess of half the value of the bike Laughing so no.

Would be nice to have a bit more peace of mind if possible and cheap Razz.

Don't be a twat and you'll be less likely to have problems than on the road Smile.

Because people DO tend to try and ride like a twat on track, there's no worthwhile options that I'm aware of.

Purely going from videos so far, but - its more other riders i'm concerned about to be honest. Laughing

I plan to go steady for at least the few couple of sessions until i'm comfortable with the track, just thinking in terms of if someone kamikazes into me on the first few laps or something.

Although; that may well not be covered anyway if its not personal error and I haven't spent silly money on 'full cover' Thinking?

I've done loads of trackdays and think I've only had two 'incidents' with other riders - in one it was the Fast group with me on a new bike (to me) - other rider going at a decent pace cut me up - nothing happened.

Other one was on a hired bike on my third trackday.
Other rider ran over my rear wheel from what I can work out.
All I knew was that had a bit of a two slide (was quite leant over at the time) - thought "yep, found the limit" - then came around the next lap to see a rider lying on the floor.

Amusingly the other rider blamed me (we went over, but didn't make it clear who I was) - for the record, it's most definitely the rider behind's job to overtake safely and if you're on a GSXR1000 trying to get past an R6 coming up to a very long straight, you shouldn't need to try and do it as you are exiting the corner - I might have been running slightly wide, but not much. He got a dislocated shoulder for his efforts.

I've twice taken people out racing and at least three times been taken out myself I think. But racing is a different matter entirely.

Advice I always give is - get fast SLOWLY.
Get a little quicker each lap and bikes will gives loads of warnings before they let go - you just need to make sure you're "listening".

The ones that try and go quickly off the bat are the ones likely to crash in their first couple of trackdays because they're not really used to what a bike can do.

There's my attempt, my lines were shit but they improved later on in the day ( had red devil helping me) and also had brake and clutch issues.

This is where my advice of using breaking markers comes in. Pick a breaking point you are comfortable with and then find a marker (crash barrier end, bridge, curbing, change of tarmac etc), then every few laps push that forward a bit as G said, you will know when you are getting near the limit, the bike will tell you. Doing it in dolly steps means you should never have reason to overstep that point.

So much time can be made on the brakes, I'd say this is more important than trying to increase your corner speed, most of my SV trackday laptimes were made on the brakes/corner entry.

Think about it, a measly 112mph is 50 meters per second, so if you can hold 112mph down the straight for even another 1/10th of a second, that is an extra 5 meters - whilst some other smuck is slowing down ... just like Maverick you will 'fly right by' Cool

A perfect demonstration where good lines and constancy pay dividends over outright HP! Smile

Not that it helps here, but Snetterton was always nice for pushing braking on the back straight - with a straight tarmac run off you can just make sure you're on the outside and if you leave it too late, fine to carry straight on.

Depends on the type of cat. I'm allergic to the little shits that try and tear your skin off.

You will be unlucky if it is wet ALL day even if it does rain. The track soon gets a dry line within a few laps of it stopping.

It is obviously better if it is dry all day, but with the correct attitude a wet session chucked in there to mix the day up a bit can be good fun! Thumbs Up

Especially in novice, wets should be particularly fun as you can easily go as fast as other people in the group are going in the dry in heavy rain! When said same people are pootling around double-slow, can get a nice ego boost zipping by them Smile.
