Rust on engine bolts & paint falling apart on the front mud guard already! and it's only 55 years old… fucking Chinese bikes, they're terrible.

Here's one from the future, I guess the two of them and one from the present will band together and go on to save the world from a great evil. Karma

As I explained to Mrs Borg, that's to make it lighter and therefore faster.

She muttered something about "kill me now" and "divorce". Such a card.

Thinking Call me sad but I quite like that...
I wouldn't even dress it up as a fake BMW (I'm now wondering how long China has been producing Rolex watches? Confused ).
Reminds me I need to check out a new Classic Enfield.

Would it cut the mustard as an everyday commuter?

Is she insured? Can you make it look like an accident? Will you share your grief on mumsnet?

Who gets custody of the bikes? Have you moved them to an offshore shell corporation just in case? You must think about your priorities Wink

i rode a chinky copy on great barrier island in nz for a weekend, was awesome fun, but damn slow, especially with the side car out fit,
but i guess that the nature of side valve motors, the guy who owned it had ridden about 3000miles in the course of a week and a bit, getting it to its new home, was pretty reliable supposidly

Depends.

I absolutely love mine. With an Amal carb and free flowing exhaust, it's just enough bike so that it neither struggles to keep up with traffic, but not enough to incline me towards caddishness. Riding it makes me feel - quite genuinely - like this chap looks:

https://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2sbE8ZrwLa4/Sa_-r9JpKuI/AAAAAAAABrg/b44IoQWOf5o/s1600/Bunty%2BGolightly.jpg

However, the oil changes are at just 2,000 miles, and it's not a 2 minute job. There are three reservoirs, taking (at least) two different kinds of lubricants, and 4 drain bolts just on the main tank and sump alone.

My <5000 mile 2008 model is also seeping from the primary drive cover (I hope, or the shaft seal behind it). Not enough to bother me, just needs a quick wipe with a rag when stopping.

It also wants warming up (which I can't be doing with) or a bit of jiggling with the choke for a good couple of miles. The post 2008 FI bikes should do away with that, although more complication is more stuff to go wrong.

So I couldn't wholeheartedly recommend one as a sole means of transport, but as a fair weather alternative to my GS I have no regrets, and I can see myself keeping it long after Ze Beemer has left to make way for something else.

Damn surprising how the quality has dropped recently, they could easily tackle the bike market. IF they actually released bikes to that quality; this is presuming the bike has been ridden and not stored in an air proof display case.
