Never done one of these before, and haven't posted in ages, so here goes!

I'm a student at Lancaster university studying computer science and have been fortunate enough to have a bike with me for the duration, I had a Bandit which was brilliant and I recently sold it for a CBR600FW which I'm loving. I'm now doing an internship in Clitheroe (about 25 miles over the tops) for the summer and thought I would document my ride to work, as it is really quite beautiful. The Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty really is one of my favourite places in Lancashire - so I hope you enjoy some of the pictures I took this morning (I got up earlier for work for these! Laughing )

Heading out of Lancaster on the way to Quernmore you are greeted with this. As you can probably make out in the distance, there is a pretty steep road that zig zags very harshly and that's where I have to go. Just after where this picture was taken there is a near identical one going downhill which I have had a close call on in wet weather and not so good tyres.

After going through the small village of Quernmore and going up that sharp road (and passing a lot of sheep on the way), you come out to some high ground near Clougha Pike and the views here are amazing on a clear day.

The mountains in the lakes are visible in this one, along with a small view of Morecambe Bay:

You can see pretty much the whole of Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham in this one, with the river Lune flowing straight through the middle:

This one is my favourite view, you can make out the outline of the country on the Fylde coast, which encompasses Blackpool, Fleetwood and Lytham St Annes. If you zoom in on this picture and look very closely, you will see Blackpool tower. I'm fairly sure you can get a glimpse of Preston too (lucky eh)

More pictures up here:

Showing the Jubilee tower, built in the 1800s I think and showing the start of the big hills

Obligatory bike in the way pictures

Making your way through on the way to the Trough you go through lots of small avenues which are really pretty in the sun, and miserable in the wet and cold

I don't know what hill this is but I'm certain there are roads on it, and I will find out soon I think. Over that hill is Garstang and Scorton I think:

After more dips and hills and sheep and suicidal rabbits, you come up to the Trough of Bowland, a valley in the Forest, which is the main thing you see on signposts. It is literally just the road that cuts between these hills. This stone marks the historical boundary between Lancashire and the West Riding of Yorkshire - pre 1974 innit. So even though I'm riding through Lancashire past this, it technically is still Yorkshire (and that makes me feel a little ill Laughing )

Leaving Lancaster City district at the Trough

Start of the Trough. I would have stopped to take more pictures on the descent, but low visibility and fast moving cars made it a little suicidal to stop halfway down the hill.

This is my favourite picture spot on the way to work, you can see right up the hills or right down to the road below, absolutely brilliant (perfect for bike pictures Very Happy ):

At the end of this road heading up towards Dunsop bridge is a little carpark and a lovely little stream (which I believe is actually the drinking water for Preston!)

So yeah, this is all I had time for on the way to work this morning, I want to get the second half tomorrow morning which includes Dunsop bridge, more sheep and a lot more hills! Apologies if it wasn't the most descriptive, but I just wanted to share the wonder I get to ride through each morning and each evening, very lucky to have such great landscape close by.

Aye Devils bridge is quite nice. Glasson dock is quite a nice place as well, along with parts of the Fylde.

I'm thankful that my internship is only until September as I would hate this in the winter, it'd be pretty much impassable I reckon!

Lol at the heartbeat, bloody Yorkshire Wink

Used to do the Trough all the time when I lived at parents. The road from Dunsop to Whitewell is good fun! Although when I did it recently I was 20mph slower than my 18 year old self!

I was up that way at the weekend, I enjoy parking my tatty bike by the front door of The Inn at Whitewell and popping in for a shandy and upsetting all the snobs on the back terrace overlooking the river. Thumbs Up
