... My KR1S is out and about! Smile

Due to various reasons I've not ridden it since about September last year. I moved house and have been busy with pitbike racing etc. I had refurbished the fuel tap and replaced the battery over the last couple of months, but at the weekend I completed the final task to make it work properly, a new set of plugs.

I tried to start it last week in preparation for an MOT but it just wouldn't go. I could hear it fire but it would not run cleanly, so I decided to buy a new set of plugs. When I removed the inspection panels from the fairing, I found that one of the HT leads was removed! Embarassed At that point I figured I might as well stick the new plugs in anyway.

When I removed the old ones I found that the bike was running pretty cleanly, and although they were sooty, they were not black with oil. I did notice however that both plug gaps were very tight with the right cylinder being too small to measure with my Spark plug tool.

The new plugs were the correct gap from the factory, so I fitted them to the bike and gave it a couple of swift kicks with the choke on. It started on the second kick, and the garage was soon filled with thick white smoke! Very Happy So on Monday I called a local MOT place to see if they could fit me in for a MOT yesterday. They just said bring the bike down whenever so I dropped it off before work and returned to collect it at lunchtime. I decided that now I had a shiny new MOT with no advisories I might just go back to work on the bike which was a journey of about three miles.

I'm so glad I did because despite the traffic through the middle of Farnborough it was amazing fun. The bike now pulls cleanly all the way to the top end with a nice kick at 7000 and again 9500 rpm. The couple of short sections of dual carriageway allowed me to thrash the bike a bit, and it's lack of weight and sharp steering allowed me to feel like I was dominating the bike rather than it taking me for a ride. It felt a lot like my old TZR250 used to feel, something I've been trying to recapture for a few years.

Yesterday I was contemplating selling it as I never use it, but I think the best solution to this would be just to use it more rather than to get rid. it's an awesome bike, and I think all performance minded motorcyclists ought to experience a peaky 250 two stroke sportsbike at one time in their lives if only so they can realise that a 160bhp 1000cc sportsbike is not the be-all and end-all.

Nice post of inspiration for fellow 2stroke owners Marjay! Thumbs Up

It's exactly the right green by the looks of it to go with my car though, so I'd have it any day! Laughing

Yes it's the wrong green, but I kind of like it.

The crank is new, and judging by the amount of white smoke that poured out when I finally started it, I'd say the mains were well protected.

Stan Stephens always says that the worst thing you can do to a two stroke is to store it. He meant for years rather than months though, and storing it for a few months isn't going to do it any harm.

I went out riding my KMX in shorts and a T-shirt on Christmas day just to make sure my bearings and crank seals were still lubricated/protected! Laughing

It wasn't built with enough oil then. My RD350F2 wasn't ridden for two years, and same is true for most of my two strokes.

If it happens it happens. I can't stop it now. Might as well just ride it and have fun! Smile

Fantastic, good to see a pass with no advisories. Just enjoy the hell out of it. Completely agree with what you say about everyone should be able to experience a decent 250 2T.

I have just replaced the tyres on my tzr250 and have done around 200 miles over the past couple of weeks on it. Every single ride on it is brilliant.

Make sure you use it and enjoy it whenever you can.

Yes, but the ring pegs pop out of the ring end gaps and get caught on the exhaust ports. My bike apparently has new pattern pistons that don't have this problem.

It's a catch bottle I made because of a mystery oil leak onto the rear tyre. Turns out it was the rear shock remote reservoir leaking. I've sorted it now with some instant gasket! Laughing

Oddly enough I dug out the old RGV's from the back of the garage yesterday....time to get them up and running 8 years after one of them tried to kill me.....funny how after so long just a sit on it feels like being right at home...and boy are these things agile!

Thumbs Up That statement is so true.

Lovely bike, don't sell it because as soon as it's gone you will regret it.

Yeah don't sell that it's lovely! FF 20 years... Instead of telling the grandkids about your youthful riding exploits, fling 'em the keys & a warning - 'it's a lot quicker than that electric rubbish you young 'uns have today.'
