I'd frame swap it for the time being then see about registering that frame. The CR wasn't very difficult at all & I did write up a lengthy guide on the costs and requirements. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

NOVA application (which you have to do anyway), they'll then decide if tax is due on it, if they think it is then it's based on current value, so probbably around £60.
Don't need the dating cert unless wanting an age related plate, bonus that you do have it however
HM Revenue & Customs wrote: | Information you need to notify a vehicle
To make a notification you need to have detailed information available including:
the make, model, engine size and body type of your vehicle
the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
the existing registration number of the vehicle (if applicable)
the value of the vehicle
mileage details
details of your supplier for vehicles from within the EU
the import entry number and the commodity code for vehicles from outside the EU
Please note that this list is not exhaustive and you may need additional information to make your notification. |
I only supplied those listed in bold when I registered the CR125, queried it with them and they state that as long as you put a line through all empty boxes all that's really required is engine number, frame number, make, model, value, your name, your adress, your phone number etc.
It's like a 10 page form you fill in about half a page of and you put lines through everything else

Nope.
No NOVA, no registration.
https://i.imgur.com/kmkLbo5.jpg
NOVA is the only acceptable proof that all outstanding VAT on the vehicle has been paid & the vehicle needs a NOVA referance in order for the V55/5 application to be considered. Without the NOVA being completed DVLA will reject the application.
1: NOVA
2. MOT
3. Insurance
4. V55/5 + Money + driving licence + utility bill + insurance cert + MOT cert
5. Recieve numberplate authorisation cert & go hooning.
Obviously you have type approval so you'll fill the v55/5 in slightly differently, but the process is explained in great detail here;

If he doesn't go anywhere near HMRC he cannot prove that the tax was paid on the bike when it came into the country, no proof of tax being paid then no registration.
At a guess, the customs document covers proof that VAT has been paid and it's acceptable, however the guys at DVLA were insisting that a NOVA application had to be completed anyway regardless of if I had proof elsewhere.
Either way, for this exact situation there's simply no way around it, and it's a free form that'll take all of 15mins to fill out. No point arsing around trying to find a way around it ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

Iain, that is spot on, thanks. Who did you email initially or was there a web form at HMRC?
Also, to complicate things a little. I have a brand new 125 lifan engine, which I want to put in, bearing in mind all my documentation is for the 70cc, am I better off just registering as is and then updating with new engine later. I don't want to make the DVLA have to think too hard. ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

I would reg it as a 70, as thats what you have type approval for then as soon as recive the V5 change the engine number/capacity on it and post back to them.
That said, I know basicly nothing about type approval or how it relates to engine size as my CR was regged as exempt from type approval. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

The plot thickens ....
HMRC reckon NOVA doesn't apply as this was imported pre-NOVA which is only recent. Give me a few bits of advice as to what I can do, or contact the importer and see if I can get a copy.
Called the company on the V267 and a nice lady directed me towards someone who may be able to help within the company. Emailed and awaiting response.
Cannon Tools, they seem to do the Neilsen cheapie tools and Monkey bikes. ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

Stopped fannying around, called the previous 'owner' they forgot to give me the customs declaration. It's on it's way. I can do a regular registration now, no messing! Hopefully within a couple of weeks it will be road legal. ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

I now have the three magic documents in my hand, also another one that says MOT passed! Not sure if I needed the later but with the certificate of newness being over three years old I've done it.
Will insure today and send off all the documents I have, then wait! ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

After some faffing around with the insurance, not putting the chassis number on the certificate and insuring the wrong model. Looking at the ECC and realising it has the wrong engine size listed. 49cc instead of 72. Called DVLA, mong said go back to the manufacturer and get them to correct it, as if that's an option. Went for the alternative option
It was sent yesterday special delivery, let's see what they make of it. Will not sleep until I see a letter from DVLA (either way), I hate dealing with this kind of stuff. ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |
