Saw an old fzs 600 on facebook going cheap had a few issues but i went for it, handed over 600 sterling and even got a spare engine!
https://i.imgur.com/NlXEbxd.jpg
first things first adress known issues.
Brake caliper broken bleed nipple.
front fairing damage.
wrong colour tank
tatty in places.
good bits:
spare engine
fairings not wrecked
40,000 miles
near new chain + sprocket
few months tax + mot
seller even delivered it.
first task, stick old engine on ebay to make funds, sold for £50 quick sale.
task 2... brake caliper...
these are known to be shit and sieze up pretty quick so i got them off and took a look..
siezed wasn't the word for it!
complete rebuild was in order, was no real issue with the bleed nipple as they have 2 nipples on the rear and i will be looking for a fzr thou caliper anyway.
urghh
https://i.imgur.com/j3KOz1c.jpg
brakes now all done and fully working.. for now!
next task! fairing + tank!
£40 lighter the tanks gone to be resprayed
front fairing off and ready to be fixed
https://i.imgur.com/pkZSDA3.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/jEEf5xv.jpg
after many hours of trying to fix the ugly bloody thing i got there.. not perfect still needs sanding to a smooth finish then spraying..
https://i.imgur.com/zEhEMXK.jpg
next task is to adress the riding position maybe, got some renthals i wanted to try out but after loads of pondering i decided against the idea as they're just too wide.
https://i.imgur.com/bDy2yBe.jpg
3 weeks on:
tank has arrived!!!!!
no stickers but the ones id ordered where way too small and then i lost them so i will maybe put them on at a later date.
https://i.imgur.com/MTiMzoe.jpg
all fitted and ready to ride.
been sat for weeks and tank was bone dry, new fuel in tank turned the key twice to prime the pump and hit the starter button, instantly fired up and idled with no problems.
https://i.imgur.com/v8SAYPF.jpg
om nom nom
total cost of fixes above: £45
fuel £5
profit from spare engine £50
total cost: £0
To Do List:
new exhaust as this one is eww
hid headlights maybe?
respray rear plastic above tail light as its faded like mad.
repaint engine.
tank stickers.
radiator cover
new levers all round.
fazer thou rear caliper
general tidy up.
Maybe more tarting up. |

I should go for that if I were you. Word on the Fazer Owners forum is they don't come along too often. I think you need to shave a little bit off of somewhere to fit it, but no big shakes.
Check front sprocket has the nut mod; should be 12mm thick as opposed to original 9mm.
There is a headlight mod that a lot of folks do - gives you both bulbs on or some such - original lights are complete pants as standard. |

Did you take the pistons out of the brakes, clean the grooves then re fit? Or did you just scrub them and hope for the best?
I would of gone for the first option, always do, looks alright but those rims are fucking hanging. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |

rear plastic resprayed looks tons better, took rack off for now...
new bits arrived!
rear pillion pegs from a 2000 fazer, 45mm longer and 10mm further forwards...
gf is about 5ft 10 so its pretty cramped on the back, big improvement but not quite there yet, need atleast 20mm-30mm extra seat padding or a longer drop on pegs, the 2000+ seat has an extra 16mm of padding but its not really worth the cost for so little.

This has potential to be a decent little bike, love the MK1 Fazer fairing.

I had one of these, I remember it having a clunky gearbox, was quite nippy though. Id have one again.
I spiced mine up with some Usd forks.

me too! considering i got ripped off at £550 for it lol.
poundland sponges cut in half stuck to cardboard then put on the underneath of the original foam to raise it up, works well!
lack of leather i can't fit much more, 10mm more would be win.
still not perfect though, might add some adjustable pegs if i can find some for less than £50,000 |

What have you done with the old tank? Can't you just measure the tank stickers on that? ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |
